Liane Moriarty, the writer of the novel Big Little Lies, gave producer Nicole Kidman the TV rights to her book on the condition that she play the character of Celeste, the abused wife, on the show. Kidman agreed and the TV adaptation premiered in 2017 to great acclaim, winning a slew of awards for the seven-episode season. "They thought it was just going to be a small drama about some mothers who have kids in kindergarten, and people were like ah, okay, that will find its way in its own little niche world," Kidman says at our interview at the Beekman hotel in New York City. "But it won't break out into something that men want to watch. And it did." She says her husband, Keith Urban, is a huge fan. "I remember the first time he saw Season 1, he was like, you have a hit show, this is amazing and I am completely addicted." After the success of Season 1, Kidman, along with fellow producer Reese Witherspoon, planned Season 2. Moriarty again weighed in, asking for Meryl Streep to play … [Read more...] about Big names, bigger secrets in Season 2 of Big Little Lies
Mother in law day
A woman flew into a rage after her mother-in-law doubted her marital fidelity and she attacked the elderly woman with a chopper. Nurul Natasha Sazali, 23, was yesterday sentenced to eight months' jail for repeatedly slashing Madam Fatimah Kalanthar Mastan, 68, in a Bukit Batok flat on Dec 15 last year. Madam Fatimah suffered injuries that included wounds on her back and left forearm. She was warded for two days and given hospitalisation leave until Dec 31 that year. Despite this, she has since forgiven her daughter-in-law, the court heard. Deputy Public Prosecutor Ng Jun Chong quoted a letter by Madam Fatimah saying she has fully recovered and "does not have any anger" towards her daughter-in-law. Nurul is now out on bail of $15,000 and will begin serving her sentence on June 7. She is still married to Madam Fatimah's son Ahmad Haji Shahrul Hameed, 25, who agreed to be her bailor. The court heard that at around 10.30pm on Dec 15 last year, Mr Ahmad asked his mother to talk to his wife, … [Read more...] about Jail for woman who slashed mum-in-law
Roman wasn’t built in a day Lawyer Roman Romulo is so nationalistic that one of his first messages to the lady he was courting eight years ago — who now happens to be his wife — was, “Happy Independence Day!” “That was one of the first messages sent to me by Roman via text. It was the only Independence Day greeting I ever received in my life!” recalls the beauteous Shalani, who married Roman in 2012 after a whirlwind courtship. Still love-struck after all these years, Shalani is dutifully by Roman’s side as he campaigns for a seat in Congress, representing the lone district of Pasig. “Roman has his own brand of being unique and funny. He also has a quiet sense of confidence that I admire. He works hard but doesn’t like highlighting his accomplishments nor does he boast about them. Roman is a simple person but with a noble intention — to contribute in nation building,” says Shalani, who … [Read more...] about Roman wasn’t built in a day

All they could think of was to get that drink for her. A video clip of this couple chasing down a Milo truck has gone viral. Muhammad Azmer Mohd Badrul Merzam from Kuantan shared the video involving his parents on Twitter, reported mStar. The video has 342,000 views, garnering 29,450 retweets and 19,422 likes since it was shared on April 28. Azmer told mStar that he was surprised his parents were willing to chase after the Milo truck until it was forced to stop at the side of the road. "They (parents) remembered that my wife was craving for it. Azmer added that when the incident happened, he and his wife were not in the car and only his mother, father and sister were … [Read more...] about Malaysian couple chase down Milo truck for pregnant daughter-in-law
By Sarah Laing The Kit Tues., April 30, 2019 Far be it from us to rejoice in any kind of interpersonal discord but we must say: How refreshing to be talking about a feud between two men! In fact, today’s column marks a rare-in-pop-culture sighting of a catfightus masculinus, which we don’t actually have a translation from the Latin for because it’s just that rare. The closest we can come is: The Opposite of a Bromance. The bros in question are actual brothers Princes William and Harry, who until late last year spent their three decades of siblinghood in near perfect harmony (or so we thought). Let’s take a deep dive into the (alleged) growing rift between these two sons of the House of Windsor. I’m going to stop you right there. Isn’t the feud between William and Harry over now? You’re referring, we assume, to the reports of an Easter Sunday truce at Frogmore Cottage? It is thought that William and Kate’s visit to … [Read more...] about Are Prince William and Prince Harry in a feud?
