Back to drawing board for Germany after North Macedonia fiasco
DUISBURG, Germany: Germany coach Joachim Loew was forced back to the drawing board to find quick fixes ahead of this year's European Championship after his team's shock 2-1 home defeat by visitors North Macedonia in their World Cup qualifier on Wednesday. Loew, who is stepping down after 15 years in charge at the end of the Euro 2020 tournament which starts in June, had imagined his last six months in charge differently. Instead his team suffered only their third ever World Cup qualifying home loss, and the first since a 5-1 thrashing by England in 2001, after beating Iceland and scraping a win over Romania in their first two group games last week. The defeat by North Macedonia, ranked 65th in the world, came only months after Germany's 6-0 thrashing by Spain, and will only pile more pressure on Loew. Germany are third in Group J and level on six points with second-placed North Macedonia but behind leaders Armenia who have nine points. Only the group winners qualify ... » Learn More about Back to drawing board for Germany after North Macedonia fiasco
Traffickers use Abductions, Prison Ships to Feed Asia’s Slave Trade
Eighty-one men were held captive in the jungle by people who authorities believe planned to -sell them – – PHANG NGA – When Afsar Miae left his home near Teknaf in southern Bangladesh to look for work last month, he told his mother, “I’ll see you soon.” He said he expected to return that evening. He never did. When he reported for work at a house on the outskirts of Teknaf, a man there gave him a drink of water. Soon, his eyelids sagged and his head started spinning. When he awoke, it was dark. He had lost all sense of time. Two Bangladeshi men then forced him and seven others onto a small boat and bound them. “My hands were tied. My eyes were blindfolded,” said Miae, 20. The boat sailed through the night until it reached a larger ship moored far offshore. Miae was thrown into its dark, crowded hold by armed guards. He and his fellow captives survived on scraps of food and dirty water, some of them for weeks. The ship eventually sailed toward Thailand ... » Learn More about Traffickers use Abductions, Prison Ships to Feed Asia’s Slave Trade

Uzma banks on two strategies to drive business
KUALA LUMPUR: Oil and gas contractor Uzma Bhd is banking on two strategies to drive the group forward in terms of operations and profitability amid the volatility in the oil and gas industry. Managing director/chief executive officer Datuk Kamarul Redzuan Muhamed (pic) said oil and gas would remain as the company’s core business, but the group would need to increase resilience and operate differently. “When I said differently, sometimes there are places that we bid our tenders, it is always technically acceptable but (offers the) cheapest (solutions), we probably do not want to participate in those businesses. “We believe that certain capabilities that we have require some premiums, so we will participate in the areas that we feel require some premiums, ” he said.
