Called HeartCon, the medical device functions as a pump to deliver blood to the whole body, significantly alleviating the symptoms of heart failure. "I feel much better. I couldn't stand up before, but now I can live normally with the small device," said the 30-year-old patient surnamed Li. After months of treatment, he was discharged from the West China Hospital of Sichuan University on Monday as his heart condition improved. Li had been suffering from chest tightness and shortness of breath since 2019. He had waited anxiously for a heart transplant, but there was a lack of donors. Iran detects 112 cases of COVID-19 variant: health authorities
Video Player Close TEHRAN, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Iranian health authorities said on Wednesday that 112 people infected with the mutant variant of coronavirus have been identified in the country, official IRNA news agency reported. "So far, eight people in the country have died from the mutant virus," Alireza Raisi, spokesman for the Iranian national headquarters fighting COVID-19, told IRNA. The symptoms of the new variant are the same as the common novel coronavirus, but its contagiousness and pathogenicity is higher, he said. Raisi warned against the possibility of spread of the mutant variant in the country, urging people to follow the health protocols carefully. Iran's health ministry reported 8,270 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, raising the total nationwide infections to 1,598,875. At least 75 inmates died February 23 and several were injured in riots blamed on gang rivalry at three jails in Ecuador’s overcrowded prison system, authorities said. As security forces battled to regain control, distraught family members waited desperately for news outside the prison in Ecuador’s western port city of Guayaquil, where officials said 21 died.
