Taking cue from the fortnight-long protests by their brothers in Mancherial district, barbers in Nalgonda are preparing to launch a movement against competition from ‘outsiders’, or what they call ‘corporate salons’. As a starter, Nayi Brahmin workers and owners downed their salon shutters in Nalgonda town on Thursday, like on Tuesday, the traditional week-off of barbers, and took to the streets in protest. The demonstrations ended with submission of a petition of grievance and demands to the district authorities. 11 nominations filed for MLC election in Nalgonda
A total of 11 nominations, including six by independent candidates, were filed for the biennial election of Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates’ constituency before the Returning Officer and District Collector Prashant J Patil on Thursday. A set of nomination on behalf of sitting MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, who retires on March 29 and which necessitates the election, was also filed by some proposers. Enjoyment survey ordered in 5 Nalgonda villages
The State government has asked the Nalgonda district collector to take up enjoyment survey of 3,495 acre land in five villages of Tirumalagiri Sagar tanda of the district. The draft list of enjoyment survey would be published in the five villages – Nellikal, Chintalapalem, Tunikinootala, Jammanna Kota, and Yellapuram (Sunkishala tanda) – for receiving objections if any. Thereafter, pattas and pattadar passbooks would be issued to all eligible landholders. The development follows the assurance given by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on resolution of long pending land issues relating to the five villages during his tour of Nalgonda district on Wednesday.
