‘We can only take so much abuse’: Whole Foods suppliers slam ‘hellacious’ new policies and say rising costs are hurting business
Whole Foods is charging brands more money for prime shelf space and introducing new fees. It has also stopped paying shipping fees for some products and dropped minimum-order requirements. Some small and local vendors say the fees are damaging their business and they’re considering cutting ties with Whole Foods as a result. “I once drove to every Whole Foods store in the Portland area and dropped off jars of our nut butters” for stores to sell, said the founder of a brand of natural nut butter. “That’s over, that’s done. That’s not ever happening again.” “For a small vendor to go through this is a hellacious, horrible time and financial burden,” the CEO and founder of a snack-bar company said. Whole Foods is changing the way it does business with suppliers, and some local and regional brands say it’s having a crippling … [Read more...] about ‘We can only take so much abuse’: Whole Foods suppliers slam ‘hellacious’ new policies and say rising costs are hurting business
Unilever to launch new shower products as price increases fall short
London, England—Unilever is rolling out new products such as Dove shower foam to boost sales as it struggles to raise prices on longtime mainstays like Hellmann’s mayonnaise. The Anglo-Dutch consumer-product giant introduced five new brands in its personal-care division last year, including Hijab Fresh, a hand and body lotion aimed at Muslim consumers, and soaps formulated for babies. That helped it drive sales growth that beat analyst expectations in the fourth quarter, even as price increases fell short.“We do see that higher-volume, lower-pricing mix persisting, especially in the first half,” chief financial officer Graeme Pitkethly said in an interview. Microsoft’s Surface PC business is barely growing, despite launching 3 new products
Microsoft’s latest quarterly earnings showed that Surface revenues were $1.3 billion for the holiday shopping quarter – relatively flat from the same time period in 2016. Microsoft says that they sold fewer Surfaces overall from a year ago, but that they sold more of the expensive, premium models, making up the difference. This is despite the fact that Microsoft launched several new Surface PCs and tablets in 2017. Microsoft also reported that phone revenue was “immaterial,” and down $204 million from last year. Microsoft reported a solid quarter on Wednesday afternoon, beating on the top and bottom lines – so long as you don’t include a one-time charge of $13.8 billion related to the recently-passed tax reform bill. Things are looking less rosy over at Microsoft’s hardware businesses, however. First off, Microsoft reported that revenue in the Surface … [Read more...] about Microsoft’s Surface PC business is barely growing, despite launching 3 new products
Nintendo’s new idea ‘Labo’ may sound strange, but it’s actually a perfect fit given the company’s 128-year history
Nintendo made a major announcement on Wednesday night when it introduced “Labo.” Nintendo Labo is a set of two dozen cardboard sheets that can be transformed into various do-it-yourself contraptions, like the miniature piano seen above. Labo is a brilliant and logical move for Nintendo, a 128-year-old company with a long history of making toys. Nintendo surprised the world once again this week. The Japanese gaming powerhouse announced a new product with a strange name: “Nintendo Labo.” Stranger than the name, however, is the product itself: a cardboard construction kit for building gaming peripherals. A what? It’s worth explaining up front what you actually do with Labo. It’s not just a toy you buy, but a construction set for toys that are used with the Nintendo Switch console. The sets start at $70, and come with games. Here’s how Labo works:After emptying the box, you take … [Read more...] about Nintendo’s new idea ‘Labo’ may sound strange, but it’s actually a perfect fit given the company’s 128-year history
