We must continue to trade with China: Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj
MUMBAI: Favouring continuation of trade with China, Bajaj Auto managing director Rajiv Bajaj on Saturday said goods should be procured from wherever they are most competitively available. He was speaking at a session on 'Building Reliable Supply Chain' at the second day of the three-day virtual Asia Economic Dialogue 2021, jointly convened by the ministry of external affairs and Pune International Centre. Bajaj also said that in terms of ease of doing business, operating something in one of the Asean countries is certainly easier than "what we encounter here in India." "We like to believe that we are a global company, and therefore, this to my mind, from a cultural point of view, and an operational point of view, demands completeness or inclusiveness not just of employee gender, but also of having dealers, distributors and equally suppliers from all over the world. Mr. Xi said over the past eight years under his term, 98.99 million poor in rural areas had been lifted out of poverty while all the 832 designated “impoverished counties” and 128,000 “impoverished villages” had been removed from the government’s list. He described the lifting of close to 100 million people out of poverty in eight years as “a miracle” that would “go down in history”, offering “a China example” to developing countries, although he said “no other country” could do so “in such as short time”. China’s elimination of absolute poverty is defined according to the government’s poverty line of $2.30 in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP) per person a day, which is higher than the international poverty line of $1.90 PPP. According to the World Bank, China has lifted more than 850 million out of poverty since its ... » Learn More about China’s President hails ‘complete victory’ in poverty fight

Profile: Migrant worker-turned photographer captures everyday moments in “factory of the world”
Video Player Close GUANGZHOU, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Zhan Youbing, 47, is a brisk walker, but his gait slows to a more leisurely pace as he snaps another photo with his camera. Ranging far and wide in search of inspiration for new good shots, Zhan has worked and lived in Chang'an Township in China's manufacturing city Dongguan, known as "factory of the world," for more than two decades. The industrial estate of the bustling township has been his greatest muse. In 1995, Zhan left his hometown in central China's Hubei Province and ventured far to the southern Guangdong Province, together with other youngsters dreaming of making their fortune in the country's early economic boom. From inns to factories that churned out toys and electronics, Zhan had tried his hand at different jobs as a migrant worker in one of China's booming megacities, yet he was unable to shake the sense of loss deep in his gut. "We were like screws on the assembly lines, only hoping that we can return ... » Learn More about Profile: Migrant worker-turned photographer captures everyday moments in “factory of the world”
