Filipinos spend ‘most time’ on social media in the world — poll Rosette Adel (Philstar.com) - August 25, 2019 - 6:16pm MANILA, Philippines — A recent flagship report on the latest trends in social media revealed that the Philippines is the leading country that spends the most time on social media globally. The latest survey of market research company Global Web Index released mid-August showed that Filipinos spend, engage with or connect to social networks for an average of four hours and five minutes during a "typical day." This record was hours higher than 44 other countries in the world as the survey found out that digital consumers spend only an average of two hours and 23 minutes per day on social networks and messaging. The Philippines was followed by Brazil with an average of three hours and 45 minutes of social media usage daily. Tumbling in space at seven kilometers per second, Diwata-2 took around 10 to 20 minutes to pass over the Philippine area of responsibility. During that time, it was sending its vital signs to the receiving station. Both batteries showed up on the large screens as bright green bars. At that time, it was not consuming a lot of power as the ground station wasn’t sending any commands. The big breaking news in Philippine aviation was the report that PAL Holdings Inc., operator of Philippine Airlines (PAL), has selected Gilbert Santa Maria as its new president and chief operating officer (COO) after the board of directors formalized his appointment in a meeting in Manila. Santa Maria, who was handpicked by PAL chairman and chief executive officer Lucio Tan, brings with him 15 years experience in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, replacing our good friend former PAL president Jaime Bautista who retired last month. MANILA - The US Department of State said Saturday it has arrested 11 American fugitives in the Philippines from Aug. 2018 to April 2019. Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said the fugitives were wanted for crimes ranging from conspiracy to commit murder, securities fraud, child abuse, and sexual assault. The agency's Diplomatic Security Service at the US Embassy in Manila caught the fugitives in coordination with US Marshals Service and Philippine law enforcement officials. The fugitives have been brought back to the US to face justice.
