Out of the entire series of events – journalists being brutally beaten up by a mob after a self-proclaimed BJP leader realised that one of them is a Muslim; the woman journalist being chased, with at least one man flashing at her and laughing; a mob finally beating her up after she fell down; the refusal of the police to register FIR despite all this; the mob heckling even the police; and finally the press conference by the journalists today – what shook me most were journalist Shahid Tantray’s words at the press conference. In the 50-minute press conference yesterday, Tantray points out that while the violence was on, even the police seemed helpless. “Main ye personally kahunga ke they also felt helpless.” Tantray is narrating an incident of being brutally beaten up, strangled with his camera strap and abused with religious slurs by a mob in the national capital.
