What does China’s poverty reduction victory mean to the world?
Ending absolute poverty in the world's most populous country is nothing less than a history-making moment. Alleviating poverty is a common and enduring challenge to humanity. China has a population of 1.4 billion and has used the past decades, since 2012 especially, to tackle the challenge with unparalleled efforts. The result: bringing close to 100 million people out of poverty in eight years and a farewell to absolute poverty. For the 100 million, the changes are real -- it is an ill man being able to afford treatment, a mother having a job, a family moving out of a ramshackle shelter, or a student no longer having to climb a cliff to go to school. Improved lives give these people hopes and dreams. Thursday's gathering to mark the country's complete victory in its fight against poverty evoked strong emotions in many who would agree the great struggle won attests to the nation's resolve, character, and strength. The Communist Party of China (CPC), inspired by socialist ideals ... » Learn More about What does China’s poverty reduction victory mean to the world?
What China’s success with eradicating poverty can teach the world
The right to not live in poverty is the ultimate human right. The task of eliminating poverty is the most urgent and important task of human civilization today. And there are few nations that are more focused on that task than the People's Republic of China. If there was any justice in the world (i.e. if it was less dominated by the West), and if prizes were awarded based more on results and less on dogma, the Communist Party of China would be a clear contender for the Nobel Prize in Economics. China has so far eliminated poverty for 850 million people – an unparalleled feat in the history of human civilization. This accounts for more than 70 percent of global poverty reduction. In 1994, China held a Work Conference on National Poverty Alleviation, where the basic foundations of China's poverty alleviation program were formulated. This included leasing out farmlands to poor households, improving education and health, providing job opportunities, ensuring mass electrification, and ... » Learn More about What China’s success with eradicating poverty can teach the world
Unique strength of China’s system allows it to win war on poverty
China has scored a "complete victory" in its fight to eradicate absolute poverty, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced at a national commendation conference at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday. But this seems not what certain Westerners are happy to see. The very criticisms China hawks make against the Communist Party of China (CPC) are the reasons it has been able to accomplish the historic goal of eradicating absolute poverty. Following a clear, long-term vision focused on helping the people, the CPC has marshaled all the resources of the government to achieve the extraordinary goal of eradicating absolute poverty. The long term-nature of the poverty eradication plan and the granular focus of its executions are two main reasons why it has succeeded, where similar plans such as the US War on Poverty launched in 1964 failed. China, over the past eight years, was able to use targeted poverty eradication programs to lift the remaining 100 million ... » Learn More about Unique strength of China’s system allows it to win war on poverty
Celebrating a historic victory over poverty
In a speech at the Great Hall of the People, President Xi presided over a national commendation conference marking China's triumph over absolute poverty. This ceremony honored some significant role models, but equally important, it acknowledged the collective effort of China's government and its people in accomplishing this momentous task. President Xi emphasized the role that China's poor have played in the poverty eradication process. With the government providing the appropriate structure and leadership for poverty eradication, it could unlock the impetus of ordinary people to mobilize their creativity and resources to address poverty based on their local conditions. Significant in China's poverty eradication has been the unified response from all levels of government to devote serious resources to tackling this issue. In the past eight years, it is estimated that China allocated about $250 billion in fiscal resources to the poverty issue. Demonstrating a commitment to ... » Learn More about Celebrating a historic victory over poverty

China’s Jing-Jin-Ji region deepens coordination with notable outcomes
BEIJING -- The largest wholesale clothing market in Beijing, today notably quieter than its former bustling self, is speeding up its transformation into a national-level fintech demonstration zone after the integrated development of Beijing and neighboring areas was upgraded to a national strategy seven years ago. In early 2014, China initiated a key strategy to coordinate the development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei -- a regional city cluster called "Jing-Jin-Ji" -- to create a model with a better economic structure, cleaner environment, and improved public services. The malls at the market near Beijing Zoo, which is located in the downtown Xicheng District, have been shut down one by one since 2015, when the capital started purging itself of non-essential businesses to make way for high-end industries. A prominent task of the "Jing-Jin-Ji" strategy is to move non-capital functions out of Beijing to treat "urban ills" in the Chinese capital, such as traffic jams and pollution. ... » Learn More about China’s Jing-Jin-Ji region deepens coordination with notable outcomes
