NEW DELHI: China's Oppo has filed 200 patents mostly for 5G and camera technology from its India research and development center (R&D) and said that "huge investments" are being made to further expand the Hyderabad facility. "40% patents are filed while the rest 60% are in the process of getting filed. This is being done by the India R&D team," Tasleem Arif, Vice President & Head, R&D Oppo India told ET.Oppo had last year said that it is investing $7 billion globally to develop core technologies in hardware, software and system along with 5G/6G over the next three years."We have established our 5G lab in India, which was a huge investment. The global bucket is $7 billion and India is getting investments from that fund," he said.Arif said that Oppo's India R&D center is the largest outside of China. "The Indian market is very critical. With 13,788 new COVID-19 positive cases reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India reached 1,05,71,773.The Health Ministry stated that India has been recording less than 20,000 daily cases from the past eleven days and it maintained the same on Monday, January 18. Will agitate against complex, arbitrary GST system: CAIT
New Delhi, The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has announced that it will launch a nationwide movement against the present Goods and Services Tax (GST) system which it claims has become "extremely complicated" because of several "arbitrary" amendments.According to CAIT, the GST has become a hurdle in the smooth retail trade because of the complexities and arbitrariness of its provisions.In a statement on Sunday, the traders' body said that it will convene a three-day conference of trade leaders of all states from February 8-10 at Nagpur to chalk out the future course of action. About 200 prominent trade leaders from across the country are likely to participate."Post-Covid, the retail trade is fighting hard for its survival and in such a situation, the GST system has become a devil for the business community due to several arbitrary amendments. Bharti Airtel plans to raise $1 billion through perpetual bonds
In the first week of 2021, Indian companies raised $2.1 billion from overseas markets --- about 15% of the total debt raised from offshore lenders and the most mobilized during the opening week of a year.About two dozen Indian companies collectively raised $14.01 billion abroad in 2020, down from $26.5 billion the previous year, show data from Dealogic, a global analytics firm.Sovereign-backed State Bank of India, Exim Bank and privately held Shriram Transport Finance sold bonds at historic low rates in the past week. SBI raised $600 million, five-and-a-half-year money, offering a 1.8%. Shriram Transport Finance mopped up $500 million (three-and-a-half years) at 4.4%.
