Chandigarh: The Haryana government has enhanced Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, pensioners and family pensioners to 12 per cent from 9 per cent, with effect from January 1, 2019. The hike is estimated to cost state Exchequer an extra Rs 17.70 crore per month approximately, Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu said here on Monday. He said the burden during the current financial year (2019-20) on the Exchequer for 14 months from January 2019 to February 2020 would be Rs 247.80 crore. He said the state government has also enhanced DA by 6 per cent for state government employees, who continue to draw their pay in the pre-revised pay scale or grade as per the 6th Pay Commission, from existing 148 per cent to 154 per cent of the basic pay, with effect from January 1, 2019. New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday announced a hike of a 5 percent in dearness allowance (DA) for the central government employees and pensioners ahead of Diwali festivities. Calling it as a "Diwali gift", Union Minister Prakash Javadekar today announced a rise in Dearness Allowance from 12 to 17 percent. The minister said the move is likely to benefit nearly 50 lakh crore government employees and 62 lakh pensioners. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Union Cabinet, which was chaired by the Prime Minister. "Under leadership of Prime Minister Modi, several decision have been taken and good news for govt employees is that Dearness Allowance has been hiked by 5%," Javadekar said. 7th pay commission: In a good news for about 18 lakh Tamil Nadu government employees, the state government has announced a two per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for its staff on Monday. For this, it will incur an additional annual expenditure of Rs 1,157 crore. The same will be in effect from July 1, 2018. Chief Minister K Palaniswami said the government's decision to increase the DA from seven per cent to nine per cent with effect followed the Centre earlier approving an additional two per cent DA instalment for its employees. Expressing his joy over announcing the revision, the CM said in a statement that various sections of government employees and pensioners would benefit from the move. The increase will be in the range of Rs 314 to Rs 4,500 for various government employees and Rs 157 to Rs 2,250 for pensioners and beneficiaries of family pension, he further said. New Delhi, Dec 12 () The government's priority is to pay the outstanding salaries of BSNL employees and contract workers once the condition of the debt-laden firm improves, Union minister Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.The state-owned telecom company is in loss since 2010 and has a debt of around Rs 20,000 crore. "Our priority is to give salaries to the employees. The entire House knows BSNL's condition. A revival package has been given by the government for BSNL and MTNL and once the situation improves our priority will be to pay salaries," the Minister of State for Communications said during the Question Hour. Replying to another query, he said the government's priority once the funds are arranged will be to pay the contract workers engaged with BSNL. 7th pay commission: Narendra Modi-led Union government is likely to give a 2 percent rise in the dearness allowance to the government employees on Wednesday. The Union cabinet is likely to take a decision on the same today which has brought cheer to around 50 lakh employees. This increment will be as per the formula decided in 7th pay Commission. As per the sources, this increment shall be implemented from July 1. The country has over 48 lakh government employees and over 61 lakh pensioners. If there is an increase in dearness allowance, all these will be directly benefited. Before this, the government gave an increment of 2 percent in dearness allowance in March. This increment was implemented from January 2019. For now, the dearness allowance percentage has been set at 7%, which the government is likely to increase to 9%.
