Online Education: ELCOT invites bids for 9.69 lakh 4G data SIM cards
By T RadhakrishnaIn a major push to online education, the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (ELCOT) — the state government’s nodal agency for ICT projects — has invited bids for the procurement of over 9.69 lakh 4G data SIM cards to provide internet service to the students of government and government-aided colleges under the fixed rate contract basis. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 100 crore.The short-tender is part of recent announcement of Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami that the state government will provide 2GB free data per day to more than nine lakh college students to attend online classes for a period of four months, beginning January this year.The purchaser is higher education department, Tamil Nadu.
