MANILA, Philippines – University of Perpetual Help's powerful spiker, Joebert Almodiel, has once again been named the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA. Almodiel earned the top individual honor in the Season 94 men's volleyball tournament after leading the Altas to a nine-game sweep of the elimination round. He was also at the forefront of Perpetual Help's hard-earned 23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12 victory in Game 1 of the best-of-3 finals against De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB), which put them on the brink of a second straight title. This is Almodiel's second straight MVP trophy, having also won the award last year along with Rookie of the Year honors. The Perpetual Help spikers can join an elite company that has scored an NCAA volleyball grand slam – Ateneo de Manila, a former league member, and San Sebastian. MANILA, Philippines—University of Perpetual Help will try to sweep the women's, men's, and juniors' titles when the NCAA Season 94 finals of all three volleyball tournaments start on Friday at FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan. The Lady Altas barged into the finals after a dramatic five-set win over College of Saint Benilde in their do-or-die final 4 game on Monday. Trailing by 11 points in a must-win fourth set, the Perpetual Help women's team pulled off a stunning 25-17, 27-29, 19-25, 26-24, 16-14 come-from-behind triumph. MANILA, Philippines -- On January 28, 2016, Macky Cariño reached the pinnacle of NCAA volleyball. The youthful coach led the fourth-seeded De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB) to a magical run in the NCAA Season 91 women's volleyball tournament, where they toppled University of Perpetual Help and Arellano University in the step-ladder to earn the right to face powerhouse San Sebastian College in the finals. The Lady Stags were led then by MVP Grethcel Soltones, and were armed with a thrice-to-beat advantage as a reward for sweeping the elimination round. But Cariño's Lady Blazers did the improbable, as they outlasted San Sebastian in four games for their maiden crown. MANILA, Philippines—Cindy Imbo refused to graduate without first reaching the finals of the NCAA women's volleyball tournament. Perpetual Help's veteran spiker was superb on Tuesday, as she led the Lady Altas to a hard-earned victory over College of Saint Benilde in their do-or-die, final-4 game of Season 94. Imbo exploded for a career-best 32 points on 29 kills, two aces and a block, as Perpetual claimed a stunning 25-17, 27-29, 19-25, 26-24, 16-14 triumph over the top-seeded Lady Blazers. She was at her best in the fourth and fifth sets, when she powered the Lady Altas to stirring comebacks. They were down by as many as 12 points in Set 4, before Imbo came alive with a series of hits.
