DESPITE being unable to move around due to his hunched body, Mohd Hafizal Kadir is at ease in entertaining his listeners with pleasant and casual chatters while he plays songs over internet radio, Perindu FM. Bernama paid the 31-year-old disabled DJ a visit at Kampung Tasik Pauh near here and was surprised to find him lying on a thick blanket while broadcasting his programme. His presence in the living room is hardly noticeable as he is also very thin and hunched. But his gentle and casual voice while handling the song request segment is pleasant to the ear which help to ease the listeners’ boredom from work and he is always encouraging listeners to put in their requests for their favourite songs. Mohd Hafizal said he started deejaying two years ago when he was invited to fill the vacancy of the song request slot for Ijaz internet radio before moving to Radio Perindu FM four months ago. “I could not do any work ... I am only able to lie in bed all day long. My food, clothes … [Read more...] about Physically disabled DJ soothes and entertains his listeners
Two or three times a year, he appears with makeup on his face and in silky costumes on stage in the spotlight. He is a motorcycle repairman by profession and a comedian by passion. What is even more remarkable about him is that he is physically disabled. He is one of founding members of Shwe In Ar (Disabled Comedian Troupe), the only surviving disabled Anyeint troupe in Myanmar. Anyeint is a Myanmar traditional entertainment form in which a female dancer and at least three comedians entertain the audience, accompanied by traditional instruments. He was born disabled. He left his village in Maubin, Ayeyarwady region to be independent of his guardians in early adulthood and settled down in Yangon. Performing arts is the only thing he ever had a passion for. Pursuing his passion without having a proper job is impossible. With one leg and less fingers, he endeavoured to learn how to repair motorcycles. It is simply amazing the verbal diarrhoea that spewed forth from some of the replies in online forums to my letter. Many adult minds have been sympathetic to my leaving, others childish and downright juvenile in their opining, many unnecessarily nasty and even threatening. One man said I would not live to see my 91st birthday. Some said I was lying. Some said I had cheated in the past. Others said, “Good riddance.” Why do these, supposedly grown men, get such personal delight in carrying on like a gaggle of teenage schoolgirls? Let me once again set the record straight and also add a few final thoughts: Donald Graber is not a pseudonym. I don’t hide behind a fictitious name so I can sling dirt at others from the comfort and ambiguity of my easy chair. I am not living on the street on garbage; I have Bt800,000 – and more. I am moving to an affluent place with a climate far better than Thailand’s: mild and pleasant, plenty of sunshine, not … [Read more...] about To clarify, this is why I’m leaving Thailand at 90 years of age
