Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) the largest carmaker of India on Wednesday launched the BS-VI petrol variant of the S-Cross, starting at Rs 8.39 lakh (ex-showroom) as it shuns diesel portfolio and has moved its entire SUV portfolio to petrol. Powered by a BS-VI compliant 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that can generate maximum power output of 105 PS and offer a peak torque of 138 Nm, the new engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed AGS transmission. “With the launch, we want to increase our market share in the B-segment,” said Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Maruti Suzuki. New vehicle sales and used vehicle prices are recovering in May and June almost as fast as they declined in March and April, according to JP Morgan. “We didn’t call it, nor did we expect it, but numerous data points all suggest the U.S. auto industry is in the midst of a once fabled but clearly no longer mythical ‘V-shaped recovery,’” JP Morgan analyst Ryan Brinkman wrote in a report.That rebound prompted JP Morgan to raise its 2020 U.S. light vehicle seasonally adjusted annual sales rate (SAAR), a closely watched sales measure, by one million, to 14.5 million. Expectations of a rebound in the sector’s fortunes in Q4, which is usually a strong quarter, have been fuelled by the government’s announcement that it will pump in fresh investment of ₹100 lakh crore into the country’s infrastructure through National Infrastructure Pipeline. Steel producers and analysts tracking the sector expect the new investment, particularly in power and the railways, to trigger additional demand for steel.Domestic steel prices were increased by ₹1,500-1,800 a tonne, or nearly 4%, recently. Oil prices fell for the first time in four days on Wednesday, pulling back from as much as five-month highs as mounting coronavirus cases worldwide and in the United States undercut market confidence in a pickup in fuel demand.Brent crude was down 16 cents, or 0.4%, at $44.27 a barrel by 0117 GMT.
