New Dehlhi: As India gets ready to for the ‘Chakka Jam’ called by the farmers on Saturday (February 6), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal salmmed the Centre and said it is not only Punjab that is protesting against the farm laws but the entire country, she accused the central government of overlooking the other protests. The former cabinet minister voiced her concern and stated that the central government has misunderstood that only Punjab’s farmers are protesting against the new laws and asserted that it is the entire country that stands with the farmers. "The Government of India has a misunderstanding that only Punjab is agitating. The entire country is protesting, farmers from all states are sitting at protest sites. If they still want to turn a blind eye claiming only Punjab is protesting, then one can't do anything," Badal was quoted as saying by ANI. Akali MLAs evicted amid ruckus in Punjab House
Unruly scenes were witnessed in the Punjab Assembly on Friday as MLAs of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) stormed the well of the House, raising slogans against the government amid Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s speech on the discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address. As SAD MLAs continued their slogan-shouting despite his repeated appeals, Speaker Rana K.P. Singh suspended all the SAD MLAs for the rest of the Budget session for disrupting the proceedings of the House. Adjourning the House for 15 minutes, the Speaker also asked the Marshals to remove the Akali Dal members from the House. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, speaking on the farmers’ agitation during his speech, accused the SAD of taking a ‘U-turn’ on the farm laws, terming it ‘shameful’. Pointing out that SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal had initially accused his government of misleading the farmers, the Chief Minister said it was later that Mr. Sukhbir completely backtracked to oppose the ... » Learn More about Akali MLAs evicted amid ruckus in Punjab House

Farmers’ protests | Samyukt Kisan Morcha leader hints at nuanced stand on demands
As the farmers protest completed 100 days on the borders of Delhi, senior Samyukt Kisan Morcha leader Darshan Pal said the movement “should not be taking a hard stance on all the issues”. There needs to be “space for discussion” even on the demand to repeal three contentious farm reform laws, he said. However, in an interview with The Hindu on Friday, the veteran Punjab leader added that with expectations having been raised among the people, it would now be difficult for union leaders to back down from their initial positions. For five hours on Saturday, SKM protestors will mark the 100th day of their agitation on the doorsteps of the capital by blockading the Western Peripheral Expressway which surrounds the city and connects the three major protest sites at Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur. Apart from the repeal of the three laws, they are also demanding a legal guarantee of minimum support prices for their crops. Reflecting on the lessons learnt from the last 100 days which can be ... » Learn More about Farmers’ protests | Samyukt Kisan Morcha leader hints at nuanced stand on demands
