ROME - A mafia fugitive hiding in the Dominican Republic has been tracked down thanks to his tattoos visible in cooking videos he posted on YouTube, Italian police said. Marc Feren Claude Biart, 53, was arrested on March 24 in the town of Boca Chica, close to the capital Santo Domingo, where he had arrived more than five years ago from Costa Rica, a police statement on Monday (March 29) said. In 2014, an Italian magistrate ordered Biart's arrest for alleged drug trafficking for the 'Ndrangheta mafia organisation based in Calabria, the toe of Italy's boot. Biart fled to Central America and then to the Dominican Republic, where, according to the Italian police, he was careful not to attract attention and kept his distance from the numerous Italians living in Boca Chica. "He was a foreigner for the Italian community," the police statement said. However, Biart made a fatal mistake. He and his wife posted on YouTube several videos of Biart cooking Italian dishes. Japanese YouTuber visits ‘dangerous’ Yishun, only to find it a ‘nice cozy town’
Yishun’s reputation as a siao lang town has reached far and wide enough to attract the attention of one Japanese vlogger who is well aware of the northern precinct's infamy in local lore. But the story of the YouTuber himself, Ghibli Ojisan, is interesting. Born in Osaka, raised in the United States, and currently based in Singapore, the man travels the world to busk and films his experiences for his YouTube channel , which already has over 102,000 subscribers. Aside from having a Bangladeshi buddy he got to know in Singapore, Ghibli likes to travel to the little-known neighbourhoods that normcore tourists wouldn’t visit. Like Sengkang and Yishun, for example. Though Yishun’s so-called disrepute is very much an Internet-derived joke that has blown out of proportion, Ghibli noted that Yishun is the country’s “most dangerous area” where cat-killings, drug deals, murders, and bizarre happenings are frequent. But as he soon figured out, the most dangerous thing in Yishun ... » Learn More about Japanese YouTuber visits ‘dangerous’ Yishun, only to find it a ‘nice cozy town’
$1,000 in cash: YouTuber gives GrabFood delivery man massive tip, here’s how he reacted
Considering how tipping culture is pretty much non-existent in Singapore, receiving a tip at the end of an arduous trip never fails to warm the hearts of food delivery men here. Wanting to show his appreciation and gratitude to these "messengers of nourishment" for bringing his meals to him, local YouTuber Sneaky Sushii decided to tip three different GrabFood delivery riders various amounts of money — $50, $200, and a thicc wad of notes that amounted to $1,000. In a YouTube video posted on Monday (April 12), he stuck a GoPro on his gate to record the reactions of the delivery men. "Can I give you a tip?," Sneaky Sushii, whose real name is Jay, asked as the men delivered food to his door. The first two, who received $50 and $200 respectively, couldn't believe their eyes when they saw the money. Their hands hovered over the notes, eyes looking between the money and the customer, unsure if they could actually take the tips. After some reassurance from Jay, both men ... » Learn More about $1,000 in cash: YouTuber gives GrabFood delivery man massive tip, here’s how he reacted
The most popular music streaming service is… YouTube
Despite growing subscriber bases, Spotify and co are not the most popular music streaming services in the world. Music fans are abandoning them in favour of the video platform YouTube. In the US, YouTube is used by two out of five adults to listen to music. The Covid-19 pandemic has even reinforced this phenomenon, as the abrupt halt of concerts and festivals has pushed music lovers to turn to streaming platforms to experience music differently. Many have turned to Google's video-hosting service, YouTube, to help them do so. This is particularly seen in the United States, where two out of five adults (44%) use YouTube to listen to music. And this is true regardless of age. While a majority of 18-34-year-olds use it for this purpose (53%), a third of those over 65 do the same. In comparison, only 10% of these seniors use Spotify and iHeartRadio to listen to their favorite songs or discover new ones. It’s a trend that is also visible in France, where YouTube is the number one ... » Learn More about The most popular music streaming service is… YouTube
Indonesian tempers flare at Malaysia over YouTube parody of national anthem
Indonesians are up in arms over a viral video on YouTube that insults the country’s national anthem – one that was purportedly posted by a Malaysian user, underlining the love-hate relationship between the two Southeast Asian nations. Tempers flared when the video, entitled Indonesia Raya Instrumental (Parody + Lyrics), in the Malay dialect of the language both countries share, went viral over the weekend. It was originally posted two weeks ago by an account named “MY Asean”, which used a Malaysian flag as its profile picture. The video twisted the lyrics of Indonesia’s national anthem, for example from “Indonesia my motherland” to “Indonesia my misfortune”. Another verse contained a reference wishing ill upon Indonesian President Joko Widodo, while there was also an offensive pun on the name of the country’s founding father, Sukarno, who in the 1960s declared a Ganyang Malaysia , or ''Crush Malaysia'', campaign following the country’s formation. It also changed Indonesia’s ... » Learn More about Indonesian tempers flare at Malaysia over YouTube parody of national anthem
Dorked in the dark: YouTube video sees Chiang Mai biker arrested
PHUKET: A CHIANG MAI man was arrested by police after a video surfaced on YouTube of him driving around the northern city on a 1.2-million-baht superbike. That might not sound criminal in itself. The issue of concern to the cops was that Chetaphon Chantarabunthawi, 25, was completely naked at the time. Mr Chetaphon told reporters that he had made the video for a bet. He was drinking with his gang, who call themselves “Rock Mode”, at the Infinity bar in Chiang Mai’s Niman Hemin area. One of them challenged Mr Chetaphon: if he dared ride his Ducati superbike around the city completely naked, he would forgive him a 500-baht debt and pay him an extra 1,000 baht. Mr Chetaphon agreed and his nude exploits on the rare superbike were filmed by his friends. The video, which they uploaded to Facebook, was shared widely on social media until it attracted the attention of the Chiang Mai Police. In parts of the video Mr Chetaphon is seen standing up so that his manhood can be clearly ... » Learn More about Dorked in the dark: YouTube video sees Chiang Mai biker arrested
YouTube prank gone wrong: Teens arrested after fake armed robbery on mother
INQUIRER.net stock photo A couple of teenagers decided to prank the mother of one of them by staging an armed robbery, and it did not really go exactly as they have planned. A 17-year-old thought it would be good content for his YouTube channel, so he got three of his friends to put on ski masks and “rob” the 40-year-old mother who was in her driveway in Ohio, United States, as per Fox-affiliate WJW on Jan. 10. The teen’s friends ordered the mother to go inside her house, held an airsoft gun against her head and demanded money, as per report. As part of the prank, the 17-year-old got into a fake fight against the “robbers,” prompting his mother to flee the house. The mother running away was not part of the plan, however, which is why the teenager himself called the police about the situation. “I just did a fake robbery prank on my mom and she ran. I know she called the police. She’s nowhere to be found,” he was quoted as saying to the 911 dispatcher. The teen reportedly ... » Learn More about YouTube prank gone wrong: Teens arrested after fake armed robbery on mother

YouTube refuses to remove anti-Asian song, drawing staff ire
YouTube’s refusal to remove a song some employees find racist to people of Asian origin has caused a fracas inside the company, the latest clash in a growing national debate about anti-Asian hate. Workers at Google’s YouTube recently posted on internal message boards to criticise executives who decided against taking down videos featuring the rap song Meet The Flockers , which debuted in 2014 from recording artist YG. The track, about a burglary, includes lyrics that encourage the targeting of neighbourhoods where Chinese people live. Over the past year, there’s been a surge in violence against members of Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities, culminating in the fatal shooting of eight people, including six Asian-American women, at three Atlanta area spas on March 16. The disagreement over Meet The Flockers began when some YouTube employees asked the company’s Trust & Safety team to purge the song from the video platform. An executive from that department, and ... » Learn More about YouTube refuses to remove anti-Asian song, drawing staff ire
