SINGAPORE - Joseph Wong and his two friends Amir Syariqul Haekal Amir Razif Shari and Benjamin Ng were so determined to be the first three to sign up for the May 9-10 OCBC Cycle that they decided to queue well ahead of the event's launch - 23 hours early to be precise. They were rewarded for their patience on Tuesday (Jan 7) when they left the OCBC Square at the Singapore Sports Hub with some handsome prizes. Wong, the first to sign up, took home a Garmin Performance GPS cycling computer and an Aleoca mountain bicycle. Haekal received the same computer and Herschel merchandise. Ng, the third registrant, got a DJI Osmo Action camera and an Aleoca mountain bike. Wellbeing consultant Ng told The Straits Times: "We knew what we wanted so once we decided, we decided to come together and be the first three. "The both of them wanted the Garmin (training computer) and I wanted the camera." Women to gear up for OCBC Cycle
When the first two all-women club teams took part in last year's OCBC Cycle, the wheels started turning for organisers. Yesterday, Singapore's largest mass cycling event unveiled an all-women race category for its 12th edition on May 9-10 at Singapore Sports Hub. Up to five amateur female teams are set to compete in the OCBC Cycle Speedway Women's Championship - the fourth competitive race in addition to the Speedway South-east Asia, Club and Corporate championships. OCBC Bank's group chief executive officer Samuel Tsien said the rise in interest in cycling among women encouraged organisers to introduce the category. "OCBC Cycle has evolved to keep up with cyclists' interests and passions," said Tsien, who launched this year's edition at the Sports Hub's OCBC Square yesterday. "The key to our event's success has always been a result of support not only from the cycling community, but also from the local authorities, our partners, our sponsors and the general public." ... » Learn More about Women to gear up for OCBC Cycle
Rarely seen Paris Van Gogh sells for over 13 mn euros
Not considered a supreme Van Gogh masterpiece, it still went for $15.4 million. PARIS - One of the few paintings by Vincent Van Gogh still in private hands, "Street Scene in Montmartre", was sold for over 13 million euros Thursday at auction after going on public display for the first time this week, Sotheby's said. The painting -- which emerged after a century spent in the same collection and has not been exhibited in public since it was painted in 1887 -- fetched 13.091 million euros ($15.414 million), Sotheby's said. Reaching well above the estimate of 5-8 million euros, Sotheby's said the sale price was a record for the artist in France. The sale of the painting was the highlight of an auction of 33 works from masters including Degas, Magritte, Modigliani, Klee, Rodin and his muse Camille Claudel sold in an auction live-streamed by Sotheby's in Paris. The painting was reoffered at the end of the sale in Paris after the auction house scrapped its initial sale earlier in ... » Learn More about Rarely seen Paris Van Gogh sells for over 13 mn euros
Van Gogh’s 1887 work sold for $15.4 million
PARIS: One of the few paintings by Vincent Van Gogh still in private hands sold for more than 13 million euros at auction on Thursday (Friday in Manila), Sotheby’s said. “Street Scene in Montmartre” — on public display for the first time since its creation in 1887, after a century in the same collection — fetched 13.09 million euros ($15.4 million), the auction house said. At well above the estimate of 5 million to 8 million euros, the sale price was a record for the artist in France, it added. The painting was the highlight of an auction of 33 works from masters including Degas, Magritte, Modigliani, Klee, Rodin and his muse, Camille Claudel, sold in an auction live-streamed by Sotheby’s in Paris. The painting was reoffered at the end of the sale in Paris, after the auction house scrapped its initial sale earlier in the afternoon — where it fetched a slightly higher sale price — due to problems with online bidding. Other highlights included the sale of a recently restored ... » Learn More about Van Gogh’s 1887 work sold for $15.4 million
SunPIOLOgy raises P4.2 M for health and education advocacies
SunPIOLOgy, the annual charity fun run of Sun Life Philippines and brand ambassador Piolo Pascual, concluded its 12th year with two milestones: successfully transitioning into a virtual race and raising P4.2 Million for its health and education advocacies. Close to 1,000 runners joined the virtual race, all of whom finished the distance they signed up for at their own time and pace. Participants say SunPIOLOgy helped them stay fit even if they could not do their usual fitness activities given the quarantine measures. Participants found fulfillment in the experience and encouraged others to try running as well. “I advise everyone, especially the youth, to go out and run,” says Crispin Banares, 1st Placer for the 30Km category. This was seconded by Aurie Roque, 1st Placer for the 100Km category. “Set aside your fears and explore your strength,” she said. The event concluded last February 12, 2021 with a virtual awarding ceremony, which was graced by Piolo himself, along with fellow ... » Learn More about SunPIOLOgy raises P4.2 M for health and education advocacies
