Although it plays fast and loose with the facts, the 1993 Hollywood biopic Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is an enjoyable watch. Directed by Rob Cohen, an established mainstream filmmaker who was neither an action specialist nor particularly familiar with martial arts films, Dragon takes the spirit of Linda Lee Cadwell’s 1989 update of her book Bruce Lee: The Man Only I Knew , and recasts Lee’s story as a typical 1990s Hollywood romantic drama. The Lee of Dragon , played by Chinese-Hawaiian actor Jason Scott Lee, is a cheerfully optimistic outsider who battles against the odds to establish himself in the United States with the unfaltering help of his loyal American wife (played by Lauren Holly). The martial arts scenes, choreographed by Hongkonger John Cheung Ng-long, are edited in the choppier American style, but are still exciting. The film’s unswerving depiction of racism, often shown in the treatment Lee receives from Cadwell’s mother, Vivian Emery – who said the ... » Learn More about Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is as much Hollywood romantic drama as action movie

Comforting flavours in fusion mix
With the rising popularity of food delivery service platforms, the endless options available at a mere tap on our smartphone are leaving us spoilt for choice. But with so many choices comes the hardest part – deciding which options are to our taste. A chance discovery led to JomRisto, a restaurant offering comfort food that caters to Malaysian taste buds. Options on the menu range from Western favourites to traditional Malay cuisine, with a daring fusion of Italian and Asian flavours thrown in for good measure. One dish that will leave an impression is the Nasi Lemak Daging Rendang. The coconut milk rice and flavourful beef rendang comes with a spicy home-made sambal that draws out the creamy texture in the rice with a pleasing pandan aroma. It also comes with a fried egg as well as a generous serving of fried anchovies, adding crunch to each morsel. Looking for something less spicy? Then the Nasi Tomato Ayam Masak Merah should do the trick. The tangy rice complements ... » Learn More about Comforting flavours in fusion mix
New specialty cinnamon roll kiosk includes Milo Dinosaur, Japanese curry, and more unconventional flavours
Wilbert Tedja, 31, did not plan on going into the cinnamon roll business. The former banker, who spent six months planning a franchise in Indonesia, had to put his plans on hold after Covid-19 crept onto our shores. "The quarantine requirements kicked in just two days before the franchisor team were supposed to fly into Indonesia to give the final go-ahead to open the restaurant," Teja said. "Given the requirements we had to adhere to, it had made it operationally difficult for travelling, and thus we had to put the opening of this new restaurant on hold." "It was disappointing that everything had to come to a standstill just as we were geared up and ready to welcome this new business. I had to accept that Covid-19 was that serious and the restaurant opening would not be happening soon given the lockdown happening worldwide." With no job and no way to open his restaurant abroad, Tedja set his sights on Singapore, where he was born and raised. As a nation of foodies, ... » Learn More about New specialty cinnamon roll kiosk includes Milo Dinosaur, Japanese curry, and more unconventional flavours

Reaching well above the estimate of 5-8 million euros, Sotheby's said the sale price was a record for the artist in France. The sale of the painting was the highlight of an auction of 33 works from masters including Degas, Magritte, Modigliani, Klee, Rodin and his muse Camille Claudel sold in an auction live-streamed by Sotheby's in Paris. The painting was reoffered at the end of the sale in Paris after the auction house scrapped its initial sale earlier in ... » Learn More about Rarely seen Paris Van Gogh sells for over 13 mn euros

Pierce Brosnan - who played James Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002 - has revealed he's taken numerous copies of well-known paintings that featured in The Thomas Crown Affair. The 67-year-old actor explained: "One of the best occasions was to see the art going up on the wall. They were all reproductions of Renoirs, Chagall and Picasso. I did take some." The Hollywood star - who was born in Ireland but now lives in the US - revealed that some of the paintings are now hanging in his home in Malibu. He told the Talk Art podcast: "I took a Renoir mother and child painting, a Gauguin red dog, a beautiful Van Gogh which I had in Malibu of autumn trees." Pierce previously admitted that becoming an actor has been a "liberating" experience for him. He explained: "Once I found the world of acting, I clung to it with all my heart. It was liberating." Asian airlines turn to ‘flights to nowhere’ to get travellers back in the skies
Qantas Airways Ltd said on Thursday it would operate a seven-hour scenic flight over Australia next month, adding to a growing trend in Asia of "flights to nowhere" that take off and land at the same airport. Tough border restrictions to keep the coronavirus under control have led to a 97.5 percent plunge in international travel in the region, according to the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines. Many frequent flyers miss getting on planes and airlines including Taiwan's EVA Airways Corp and Japan's ANA Holdings Inc, desperate for revenue and to keep their pilots' licences current, have offered special sightseeing flights. EVA used one of its iconic Hello Kitty livery planes for a special father's day flight last month, while ANA used an Airbus SE A380 that usually flies to Honolulu for a 90-minute flight with a Hawaiian experience on board. Tickets costing around US$228 for a Tigerair Taiwan flight from Taipei that will circle over South Korea’s Jeju Island reportedly sold ... » Learn More about Asian airlines turn to ‘flights to nowhere’ to get travellers back in the skies
