The Annual Value of your property helps the government decide the wealth of a household. Based on this and other criteria such as assessable income, the government decides how much it should give and take from us folks. Examples of “give” come in the form of Covid-19 income relief schemes and GST vouchers, while “take” refers to the property tax each of us needs to fork out every year. In short, it’s always good to know the Annual Value of a home, especially if you’re about to buy or rent that property. But what is the definition of the Annual Value of a property, and how is it calculated? Let’s find out. What is the Annual Value of a property (AV)? Every property has an Annual Value. Peter Anthony, the head of a Chicago-area auto supplier, has spent much of this year feeling left on the sidelines in an industry delivering solid profits to car makers and dealers. Raw-material prices and labor costs have soared for his firm, UGN Inc., which makes insulation products for vehicles. Hiring had become such a challenge that the company eased its drug-screening policy and recruited former inmates to fill factory vacancies, Mr. Anthony said. All the while, car companies keep canceling orders last minute due to their own challenges with a computer-chip shortage, denting revenue. "We're being hit from all sides," Mr. Anthony said. It has been a pretty good year for many in the car business. But one swath of the sector has largely missed out: parts suppliers. Some auto-parts makers say the outlook is almost as gloomy as it was in 2008 and 2009, when sales collapsed due to the recession. "How are suppliers going to offset these cost increases we've experienced ... » Learn More about It Was a Pretty Good Year in Car Business — Except for Suppliers

NEW YORK - A computer scientist who has claimed to be the inventor of Bitcoin largely prevailed on Monday (Dec 6) in a Florida jury trial over whether the estate of a former business partner deserved half of a Bitcoin cache worth now about US$54 billion (S$73.9 billion). The Miami jury cleared Mr Craig Wright on nearly all issues in the dispute, including that half of the 1.1 million Bitcoin in dispute belonged to the family of Mr Dave Kleiman, the former partner and computer forensics expert. While concluding that Mr Wright was not liable for fraud, jurors did award U$100 million in intellectual property rights to W&K Information Defence Research, a joint venture between the men. The trial began on Nov 1. "This has been a remarkable good outcome and I feel completely vindicated," Mr Wright said in a video message. "There are still more fights. We are going to make everything change: cryptocurrency to digital cash, the way it's meant to be." Hello there Stacked Homes, Good day to you. Our 4 room BTO just MOPed after 5 years. Just want to hear your opinion on the next home for us. Hence it is best to ask yourself; ... » Learn More about Should I buy a centrally located DBSS or a condominium in Pasir Ris?
We can’t get around the fact that home prices are, well, crazy in 2021. It’s a rough time for young couples who, for whatever reason, are unable to buy HDB flats but are looking to settle down. And so for younger couples looking for their first home, a one-bedroom unit would naturally be the top choice given that it represents the most affordable entry price. But while that is true, do remember the following considerations too: You cannot buy an HDB flat if you already own a private property; even if it’s just a one-bedder If you want to settle down and start a family, a one-bedder isn’t going to last you very long One-bedders can be tougher to sell, as they appeal to niche buyers like retirees, other higher-income singles, and investors So if you can push the budget a bit more, two-bedroom units could be a more sensible choice. That said, it wasn’t all too long ago that for an entry price of $1 million you did have quite a wide selection of new launch two-bedroom units ... » Learn More about 6 lowest priced new launch 2-bedroom units for young couples (under $1.2 million)
PETALING JAYA: National top shuttler Lee Zii Jia admitted that his performance was a letdown after squandering a good chance to reach his second major final since his All-England triumph in March. The 23-year-old headed into yesterday’s semi-finals against Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn as an overwhelming favourite, but the world No. 23 upset the form book to clinch a convincing 21-18, 21-18 win. The result was certainly disappointing for world No. 8 Zii Jia as he had just defeated the Thai opponent during the group stage. Zii Jia was also unbeaten in all his three group matches and did not drop a single game en route to the last four. Kunlavut, a three-time world junior champion, was clearly inspired after being named the BWF Most Promising Player of the Year Award on Friday. Zii Jia said he wasn’t playing anywhere near his best while crediting Kunlavut as the better player of the day. “I’m very disappointed with the match (outcome)...
