MANILA- Police escorts assigned to politicians and private individuals will be recalled by the Philippine National Police for the upcoming 2019 midterm elections. Over 300 police escorts will be recalled, Chief Superintendent Filmore Escobal, director of the PNP-Police Security Protection Group said Thursday. The recalled personnel will instead be deployed for poll security. This will prevent police escorts from being used in private armed groups, said Escobal. Police marine unit recovers man’s body after car falls into Toronto Harbour
By Clare Rayment Staff Reporter Gilbert Ngabo Staff Reporter Thu., Aug. 2, 2018 Police have recovered a man’s body from Toronto Harbour after a car crashed into the Lake Ontario Thursday night. The man, approximately 50 years old, was found inside a red Toyota. His identity has not been released, pending family notification. Police were called to the water near Lake Shore Blvd. E. and Parliament St. over reports a car had entered the lake just after 10 p.m. Thursday, but darkness prevented police marine units from searching until after sunrise Friday, said traffic services sergeant Orang Momeni. “It’s rare for something like this to happen, but it’s not unusual. It happens,” said Momeni. Apple is reportedly closing a security loophole on iPhones that will prevent police from accessing them
Apple is changing the default settings on iPhones, stopping people from exploiting a security loophole to gain access to devices using the charging and data port. Police sometimes use this loophole to gain access to devices. Apple has butted heads with law enforcement about unlocking iPhones before. In 2016, it refused to help the FBI break into the phone of the San Bernardino gunman. Apple is reportedly changing the default settings on iPhones to close a loophole which can be used to access locked phones via the charging and data port. The software update, reported by The New York Times, will disable the iPhone’s Lightning port an hour after the phone is locked. After that, a user will be able to charge the phone, but unable to transfer any data to or from the device unless the passcode is entered. Police raid offices of ex-Special Branch officer in cosmetics crackdown
Santhana last week tried to prevent police from conducting an in-depth search of shops at New Don Muang Market, which had become the focus of a probe after police received reports that unlicensed cosmetics and food supplements were being sold there. Police said they would file charges against Santhana for allegedly insulting an officer and allegedly attempting to obstruct the raid. A fifth search of the market on Sunday by hundreds of police and officials led to the seizure of more than 300,000 items of allegedly substandard products. Police announced they will lay five charges against the market operator, including charges related to encroaching on the Prem Prachakorn Canal and modifying buildings without permission. Narcotics suppression police have raided the Bangkok house of a suspected drug boss, who is a registered taxi motorcycle driver, seized two cars, 2 million Baht and a bank account book with transactions totalling some 60 million Baht. Jirat Pensophon was arrested early Tuesday morning at a house in the Casa Ville Rajapruek housing estate on Rajapruek Road in Nonthaburi’s Pak Kret district. The operation was led by Narcotics Suppression Bureau commissioner Lt-General Sommai Kongwisaisuk. Sommai said an arrest warrant had been issued for Jirat, who also allegedly collaborated with other people to launder drug money. He says Jirat was suspected of being a drug-ring boss based on information police had received from suspects arrested last year when police seized one million methamphetamine pills and 400 kilograms of crystal meth.
