Police to help check prices of basic goods in calamity areas (philstar.com) - August 13, 2018 - 10:25am MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police will help monitor price freezes in areas that have been declared under a state of calamity. Director General Oscar Albayalde, PNP chief, said in a briefing Monday morning that aside from the more than 4,000 officers deployed and on stand by for search and rescue operations, police will also make sure prices of basic commodities will not skyrocket in the aftermath of widespread fooding over the weekend. He said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and police and intelligence units will help the Department of Trade and Industry monitor price freezes in areas officially under a state of calamity. By Aijaz Hussain The Associated Press Sat., July 21, 2018 NEW DELHI—A Muslim man was beaten to death by a mob in western India over allegations of smuggling cows, police said Saturday, despite calls by the country’s highest court for immediate steps to stop deadly mob violence across the country. Cows are considered sacred in Hindu-majority India, and slaughtering them or eating beef is illegal or restricted across much of the country. The mob intercepted two men on foot who were bringing two cows with them at around midnight Friday in a forested area in Alwar district of Rajasthan state and began punching and beating them with sticks, said police officer Mohan Singh. He said the men were taking the dairy animals to their village in neighbouring Haryana state. Canada’s residential real estate market saw strong, but slowing year-over-year price growth in the fourth quarter of 2017, according to a report by Royal LePage.The real estate company says based on data in 53 markets, the price of a home in Canada increased 10.8 per cent year-over-year to $626,042 in the quarter.Broken down by housing type, Royal LePage says the median price of a two-storey home rose 11.1 per cent year-over-year to $741,924, and the median price of a bungalow climbed 7.1 per cent to $522,963.
