Things have changed. In some cases they’ve changed a lot and may never be the same again. Many people are suffering as a result of the impacts of lockdowns and the border closures. Entire industries, like aviation and entertainment, have been profoundly affected. Some people are being forced to re-invent their lives as a result. Fears over Covid-19 are causing people to change their habits and re-evaluate their lives. Here are some of the main things we believe have changed since January this year. Face Masks The now ever-present face mask will be with us for a long time. In Asia, it was never uncommon to see people wearing face masks for traffic, air pollution, fears of disease or just as a fashion statement. In the Covid-era, mask wearing will now just become part of what we wear when in public spaces. When we leave home we’ll check if we have our keys, our wallet AND our face mask. Even when the government relaxes the current laws about the wearing of face masks, most ... » Learn More about Top 10 things that changed in Thailand during the Covid outbreak

Thailand News Today | Pattaya bank scam & Burmese coup update | February 2
CORRECTION: In the first story Jett referred to a Chinese man losing 130 billion baht. The correct amount was 130 million baht. We apologise for the error. Hundreds, perhaps more than 400, investors have been defrauded by a bank manager at a Kasikorn bank branch in Pattaya. The manager, named in a police report as “Mr. Gob”, was promising investors 3.5% interest, per month, yes… PER MONTH… for cash investments. It appears his high interest rate attracted hundreds of people wanting to take advantage of the generous terms. One investor, who only found out about the scam yesterday when he visited the branch for his monthly rolling over of funds, told The Thaiger that he has lost 250,000 baht at this stage, with no official response from the Kasikorn head office in Bangkok yet being made about the situation. Mr B, who has asked us to protect his identity, knows of some investors who invested many millions of baht and even one Chinese man who had allegedly invested 130 million ... » Learn More about Thailand News Today | Pattaya bank scam & Burmese coup update | February 2
Duterte fires ex-ambassador
The Philippine president has dismissed his former ambassador to Brazil after she was seen on video physically abusing a Filipino member of her household staff. President Rodrigo Duterte said on Monday night he had approved a recommendation to fire Marichu Mauro, revoke her retirement benefits and disqualify her from public office for life. The decision comes as Duterte pushes a campaign against official abuses and corruption in his last full year in power. Mauro was recalled from Brazil in October after the video, reportedly taken from security cameras in the ambassador’s residence in Brasilia and shown by a Brazilian news agency, showed a woman attacking somebody who appeared to be a house keeper. The Foreign Affairs Department in Manila said at the time that the unidentified victim had returned to Philippines and that it was trying to reach her. Mauro has not publicly commented on the allegations. Duterte has been reading the names of government employees and officers ... » Learn More about Duterte fires ex-ambassador
Liability of possessor of animal on injury caused by it
Dear PAO, Dear Tundra, It is clear from the above-cited provision of law that the possessor of the animal or whoever makes use of the same, and not the owner of the same, shall be responsible for the damage caused by it. Thus, Danny cannot escape liability by claiming that he is not the owner of the dog as long as it can be proven that he is the possessor or the one using the same. This finds support in the decision of the court entitled Afialda vs Hisole and Hisole (GR L-2075, Nov. 29, 1949): “For the statute names the possessor or user of the animal as the person liable for “any damages it may cause,” and this for the obvious reason that the possessor or user has the custody and control of the animal and is therefore the one in a position to prevent it from causing damage.” The issue of the presence of negligence is also immaterial in this instant case. This is in consonance with the decision of the court in the case of Vestil and Vestil vs Intermediate Appellate Court, et ... » Learn More about Liability of possessor of animal on injury caused by it
LTO, DOTr execs tagged as campaign fundraisers
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Richard Gordon threatened to file plunder charges against transportation officials as he accused the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) of being turned into campaign fundraising centers. Gordon, chair of the Senate blue ribbon committee, said in a Senate radio program on Saturday that he had acceded to the request of Sen. Grace Poe to investigate private motor vehicle inspection centers (PMVICs) after his committee found grave irregularities in LTO operations. Gordon said the committee found ground to file plunder charges after its investigation of two irregular contracts in the supply of license plates and uncovered an alleged conspiracy to set up a monopoly in the sale of motorcycles. “It’s definitely plunder, with such huge amounts,” Gordon said. “P477 million in advance payments—that’s 10 times [the threshold amount for] plunder.” He was referring to the advance payments former LTO officials approved in ... » Learn More about LTO, DOTr execs tagged as campaign fundraisers
