Killings along India-Bangladesh border because of crime: Jaishankar

Criminal activities are responsible for the killings along the India-Bangladesh border, according to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. At a joint press conference with his Bangladesh counterpart, A.K. Abdul Momen, in Dhaka on Thursday, Mr. Jaishankar said India was partnering with the neighbouring country in economic and health-related recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Every death is regrettable but we also have to ask ourselves why is there a problem, and the problem is because of crime. So our shared objective should be a no crime-no death border and I am sure if we can get it right, we can address this problem effectively,” said Mr. Jaishankar, adding that several of the reported deaths [of Bangladesh nationals] “are fairly deep inside India”. Rahul accuses Modi govt of carrying out raids against those who are pro-farmers

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi used three popular Hindi idioms on Thursday to hit out at the government and accuse it of carrying out raids against those who are pro-farmers. A day after income-tax raids on the homes and offices of Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and others , Mr. Gandhi used the hashtag 'ModiRaidsProFarmers' with his tweet in Hindi to take a dig at the government. Putting out three popular Hindi idioms – ‘Ungliyon pe nachana’, ‘Bheegi billi banna’ and ‘Khisiyani billi khamba neeche’ — Mr. Gandhi stated what he believes they mean in the current context. In his three pronged attack, he alleged that the Central government makes the Income Tax Department dance to its tunes, friendly media gets cowed down before the Centre and the Central government raids those supporting farmers. The searches against Pannu and Kashyap as well as his partners who launched the now shuttered production house Phantom Films were carried out across 30 locations in ... » Learn More about Rahul accuses Modi govt of carrying out raids against those who are pro-farmers

Pakistan needs legislation to meet three outstanding FATF benchmarks: Report

Pakistan will have to make further legislation on at least two counts to meet three outstanding benchmarks of the 27-point action plan of the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog FATF before the new June deadline, a media report said on Tuesday. The Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) placed Pakistan on the grey list in June 2018 and asked Islamabad to implement a plan of action to curb money laundering and terror financing by the end of 2019 but the deadline was extended later on due to COVID-19 pandemic. The new deadline was set by the FATF last month. Pakistan has been scrambling in recent months to avoid being added to a list of countries deemed non-compliant with anti-money laundering and terrorist financing regulations by the FATF, a measure that officials here fear could further hurt its ailing economy. The Dawn newspaper reported that the government will have to submit an updated report within a month to the FATF on the progress on ... » Learn More about Pakistan needs legislation to meet three outstanding FATF benchmarks: Report
