Total dues owed by electricity distribution companies to power producers rose nearly 24% to ₹1,36,966 crore in December 2020 compared to the same month a year ago, reflecting stress in the sector. The distribution companies (discoms) owed a total of ₹1,10,660 crore to power generation firms in December 2019, according to portal PRAAPTI (Payment Ratification And Analysis in Power procurement for bringing Transparency in Invoicing of generators). The portal was launched in May 2018 to bring in transparency in power purchase transactions between the generators and discoms. In December 2020, the total overdue amount, which was not cleared even after 45 days of grace period offered by generators, stood at ₹1,27,498 crore as against ₹97,835 crore in the year-ago period. Mushrooms have helped lift villagers in Jingdong Yi autonomous county, Yunnan province, out of poverty, thanks to a cultivation program launched by a university in Zhejiang province. Located in an area famous for its abundance of wild mushrooms, Wangjia was once one of 48 villages in the county mired deep in poverty due to a lack of transportation, a manpower shortage and backward production facilities. In 2013, Zhejiang University in Hangzhou teamed up with county authorities and dispatched a team of experts in tea planting, mushroom cultivation and poultry breeding to help farmers improve their agricultural skills and sales methods. According to an official communication, PSLV-C51 lifted off from the first launch pad of SDSC SHAR at 10:24 hours (IST) as planned. After a flight of about 17 minutes, the vehicle injected the Amazonia-1 into its intended orbit and in the succeeding one hour 38 minutes, all the 18 co-passenger satellites successfully separated from the PSLV in a predetermined sequence. The International Astronomical Union (IAU), an organisation which assigns official names and designations to celestial bodies, has recently confirmed the discovery of 18 new asteroids by Indian students as part of a global science programme.
