Mumbai: 600 people caught with fake ID cards since July on Central Railway
(This story was first published in the Times of India on January 15, 2021)Mumbai: A total of 600 passengers have been caught traveling with fake identity cards on Central Railway (CR) since July 2020. Ordinary passengers are not allowed to travel in local train even though 90 per cent of the services are running. A CR official said, "Commuters who fall in the category of essential services as designated by state government are issued season tickets and daily tickets. They have to produce identity card of employment to purchase tickets. However, people are buying fake identity cards to establish themselves as essential category workers."
