Understanding CPC’s institutional and theoretical endeavors
Editor's note: Lu Xia is an associate professor at the School of Marxism Studies and a research fellow at the National Academy of Development & Strategies, Renmin University of China. The article reflects the author's opinions and not necessarily the views of CGTN. Established in July 1921, the Communist Party of China (CPC) has grown from a political party with only a few dozen members to a 91-million-member party that governs a country of 1.4 billion people. It has stood the test of time, reversing China's fate from the continuous decline since the Opium War in the 1840s to steady progress toward prosperity as the world's second largest economy. An educational campaign has been launched recently, with a specific goal of learning and publicizing the Party's glorious history among its members in particular and the entire Chinese society in general. The Party reviews its history not merely to take comfort in its success, but rather to learn the laws of history, improve its ... » Learn More about Understanding CPC’s institutional and theoretical endeavors
Biden has to act to save Iran deal: China Daily editorial
It is certainly a pity that Teheran rejected the European Union's proposal of an informal meeting with the other five parties to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, with the United States to attend as a guest. The earlier Teheran and Washington re-engage directly under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the better. Neither party can afford leaving a security concern of such immensity and damaging potential unattended indefinitely. Although it would be unrealistic to expect the knot of complexities to be untied overnight, given the fact that neither Teheran nor Washington has shown any intention to slam the door shut to further engagement, it is more advisable to take Iran's statement as an invitation for the US to act. Or the prelude to a new, perhaps protracted, diplomatic process. It is not that Teheran doesn't want to meet. Now is "appropriate" for such a meeting, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said. The Iranian official also talked about a return to the commitments of the ... » Learn More about Biden has to act to save Iran deal: China Daily editorial
China’s poverty standards fit its situation, NPC spokesman says
China's poverty threshold fits its own social and economic development level, a spokesperson for the annual session of China's national legislature said Thursday, rebutting claims the country had intentionally set a lower poverty threshold. The current poverty line — per-capita annual income of 2,300 yuan ($355), set in 2011 and adjusted annually for inflation — is higher than the World Bank $1.90 per person per day poverty threshold set in 2015 when accounting for purchasing power parity, said Zhang Yesui, spokesman for the fourth session of the 13th National People's Congress, the country's top legislative body. It is also higher than the threshold of abject poverty adopted by the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he said at a news conference in Beijing. China officially started its targeted poverty alleviation campaign in 2015, three years ahead of the World Bank's rollout of its new poverty thresholds, and therefore there could be no intentional setting ... » Learn More about China’s poverty standards fit its situation, NPC spokesman says
Apple iPhone 13 series to come with smaller notch and 120Hz refresh rate
Apple will soon launch its new iPhone 13 series and if rumours are to be believed, then the phone would come with 1TB built-in storage. And now according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming iPhone series will have a smaller notch and 120Hz refresh rate. The notch design hasn’t been changed since 2017 and for a faster refresh rate, Apple will use LTPO technology on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max variants. All iPhone models would come with a lightning connector and there won’t be a port-less phone, at least this year, added Kuo. “The market expects the iPhone to abandon Lightning in favour of USB-C and equip the power button with the Touch ID sensor, but our latest survey indicates that there is no visibility on the current schedule for the iPhone to adopt these two new specifications,” the analyst is quoted as saying. He further added that the Touch ID sensor on the power button might significantly improve the user experience, but there is no indication of ... » Learn More about Apple iPhone 13 series to come with smaller notch and 120Hz refresh rate
