Mumbai: On Tuesday, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh told the Legislative Council that if hookah parlours are found operating in any area in Mumbai, the head of the Police Station of the area will be held accountable. Deshmukh stated during the question hour in the Upper House that strict action will be taken against the officer if hookah parlours are found operating in their jurisdiction. The Home Minister came up with the strict rules against hookah parlours a day after an FIR was filed at the N M Joshi Marg police station against a restaurant and bar at Kamala Mills Compound in Lower Parel. Sensex closes at 49,849.84, Nifty up by 232.40 points
Indian equity indices, Sensex and Nifty ended with strong gains on Monday which was led by broad-based buying across sectors. Broader markets, Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 supported the rally and all the sector indices ended in green. The Sensex gained 749.85 points, or 1.53 percent to 49,849.84, while the Nifty ended at 14,761.55, up 232.40 points, or 1.60 percent. Broader indices closed higher, with the Smallcap index outperforming the benchmarks, ending 2 percent higher. All sectors also ended in the green for the day led by Nifty Auto, which rose 2.4 percent. Nifty Energy and Nifty Metal were also up 2 percent for the day. Meanwhile, the banking, financial services, pharma, IT, and FMCG sectors were up 1-2 percent for the day. Sensex gains 300 points, Nifty above 14,800; banks, IT stocks lead
Indian indices opened higher on Tuesday, extending gains for another session, following a rally in global peers as a halt in a recent bond markets sell-off calmed investor's nerves. Domestically, the gains were led by banking, financial and IT stocks. At 9:18 am, the Sensex was up 308 points at 50,158 while the Nifty50 rose 68 points to 14,830. Broader markets outperformed benchmarks with the midcap and smallcap indices up around 0.8 percent each. On the Nifty50 index, BPCL, IOC, Bajaj Finance, Hero Moto and Grasim were the top gainers while ONGC, HDFC, Powergrid, Hindalco and Coal India led the losses.
