Korea Draws 1-1 Against France

June 19, 2006 07:22 The Taeguk Warriors drew 1-1 with football powerhouse France during their World Cup match at the Central Stadium in Leipzig, Germany on Sunday. Thierry Henry put France ahead in the ninth minute, but Park Ji-sung scored the tensely awaited equalizer 36 minutes into the second half. Seol Ki-hyeon broke down the right flank and crossed to Cho jae-jin, whose header deflected from the goal post. But Park popped up and nestled the ball over goalie Barthez inside the post. In the first half, Korea failed to control the field but succeeded in boxing in “US$6.6 million man” Zinedine Zidane. With the match, Korea is well placed to advance to the round of 16, topping group G with four points (one win against Togo and a draw). France has two points after two draws, the Swiss one point with one draw, and Togo none with one defeat. The stadium in Leipzig was filled with roars from some 10,000 Korean supporters nicknamed the Red Devils, who chanted, "You are my ... » Learn More about Korea Draws 1-1 Against France

IAEA says deeply concerned about unreported nuclear material in Iran

Video Player Close VIENNA, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was deeply concerned about unreported nuclear material in Iran, said its chief on Monday. "In the absence of a technically credible explanation from Iran, the agency is deeply concerned that undeclared nuclear material may have been present at this undeclared location and that such nuclear material remains unreported by Iran under its Safeguards Agreement," he said. Iran has not answered any of the IAEA's questions relating to the possible presence of nuclear material at three other locations either, he added. Red Devils Invade Germany for Korea’s World Cup Kickoff

June 12, 2006 20:56 The Korean football team's official fan club invaded Germany on Monday morning to root for the squad in its first match against Togo. One 80-strong contingent of the Red Devils left Korea the previous day and arrived at Frankfurt Airport via Hong Kong at 5 a.m. Another 80-strong group who arrived via Amsterdam also unpacked their bags at a camping site in Mörfelden, some 40 minutes from the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt where the Korean soccer squad will play Togo on Monday night. Another 320 Red Devils who left the country last Friday took a bus from Paris on Monday morning to join the rest at the camping site, where they were welcomed by some 50 members of the Korea Worldcup Organisation Komittee, a group of second-generation Korean Germans. The Red Devils brought 1,000 Red Devil T-shirts with them to distribute to ethnic Koreans there. All paid for their own trip, which cost on average around W1.7 million (US$ 1,700). “The reason we’re here today is ... » Learn More about Red Devils Invade Germany for Korea’s World Cup Kickoff

Korea Rallies to Triumph Over Togo

June 14, 2006 00:38 Korea came from behind to beat Togo 2-1 in their first match in Group G of the World Cup at Frankfurt’s Commerzbank Arena on Tuesday. Lee Chun-soo’s equalizer and Ahn Jung-hwan's second goal put the Taeguk Warriors firmly ahead over Togo’s 10-man squad. By winning three points, the Koreans increased their chances of making it into the round of 16 -- in 2002 and 1998, some 87 percent of teams who won their first match went into the final 16. If the national squad can score more than 2 points in their matches against France and Switzerland, their chance of making it to the next level are excellent. Team Korea plays France at 4 a.m. Korean time on June 19 in Leipzig and Switzerland at 4 a.m. on June 24 in Hanover. The Korean team played in the 3-4-3 formation, with Park Ji-sung, Cho Jae-jin and Lee Chun-soo at the front in the early first half of the game. But Togo controlled the game at the beginning, with star players Emmanuel Adebayor and Mohamed ... » Learn More about Korea Rallies to Triumph Over Togo
