Beijing's 1,014 parks received 4.97 million visits during the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday from Feb 11 to 17, a year-on-year increase of 255 percent, according to data from the Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau released on Wednesday. Those parks have carried out policies including free or discounted tickets and provided better service to people who stayed in Beijing for the festival, according to the bureau. The peak of the visits occurred on Feb 13 and 16. Both days saw daily visits reach more than 930,000. The government encouraged the residents to stay in the city for the holiday to reduce infection risk instead of going back to their hometowns. In the past five years, Beijing has built more than 700 "pocket parks" and small-scale green spaces, which have given residents even more options for leisure activity. According to the bureau, the city has 1,090 parks in total. ... » Learn More about Beijingers visit parks en masse for Spring Festival

Explained: How glaciers, glacial lakes form and why they break
The floods that slammed into two hydroelectric plants and damaged villages in Uttarakhand were set off by a break on a Himalayan glacier upstream. Here's a look at how glaciers and glacial lakes form and why they may sometimes break:How glaciers and glacial lakes formGlaciers are found on every continent except Australia and some are hundreds of thousands of years old. A large cluster of glaciers are in the Himalayas, and Sunday’s disaster occurred in the western part of the Himalayas.Glaciers are made of layers of compressed snow that move or “flow” due to gravity and the softness of ice relative to rock. A glacier's “tongue” can extend hundreds of kilometers from its high-altitude origins, and the end, or “snout," can advance or retreat based on snow accumulating or melting. Starting in Mumbai on October 23, 2020 he finished the ambitious journey in Pune on December 18, covering 23 cities en route.Andrew used the lockdown period to hone his cycling skills. He was working from home and planned each day such that he could accommodate his work as well as his passion. “I would cycle from 6 am to 10 am and then start work. Again, post lunch I would cycle till sunset and then get back to work to complete whatever was unfinished,” he says over phone from Mumbai.
