After yet another cinema hiatus, going to a theater to catch a film is once again a possibility in Hong Kong. Given theaters are still off-limits in many places around the world, the pickings are slim. Then a small menu could be a good way to ease back into things. After shooting out of the gate in late-February with lingering blockbusters, this week screens are splashed with (among others) a minor gem which would otherwise have been overwhelmed by Soul or Wonder Woman 1984 , and a New Year rom-com that's either eight or three weeks late, depending on which calendar you follow. In Run , we meet Diane (Sarah Paulson) in the midst of a difficult premature labor - shot in hard, suitably harrowing, green light - that very nearly ends in death. Flash forward 17 years and Chloe (Kiera Allen) endures a battery of drugs and physiotherapy to manage her heart, respiratory and mobility issues, but other than reliance on a wheelchair, Chloe is a bright, balanced, college-bound teenager. ... » Learn More about Binge watch away your COVID blues

China to speed up tapping new energy sources, but coal stays in mix
BEIJING : China set a modest five-year growth target on Friday for its nuclear power generation capacity and promised quicker development of alternative energy sources as it seeks to cut its carbon footprint, but left its coal industry largely untouched. The world's third-largest largest nuclear power producer, aims to have 70 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity by 2025, the government said in its 2021-2025 plan delivered to the Chinese parliament. China originally aimed to bring its total nuclear installed capacity to 58 GW by 2020 but failed to meet the target following a long moratorium on new projects as well as delays at new third-generation plants. The plan also called for a rapid boost to wind and solar power generation and promotion of electricity generation from waste to help China meet its goal of having non-fossil fuels meet around 20% of total energy consumption by 2025. The world's top energy consumer has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2060 but has to ... » Learn More about China to speed up tapping new energy sources, but coal stays in mix

Video Player Close BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- With the COVID-19 vaccinations underway amid dwindling daily counts of new cases and deaths worldwide, the epidemic has shown a downward trend. But experts around the world pointed out that it is still too early to talk about when the pandemic will end and vigilance is still needed as the "turning point" has yet to come. The WHO is now focusing on keeping COVID-19 transmission as low as possible, which will help prevent the emergence of variants and reduce the number of infections and hospitalizations, Ryan said. Noting that countries and regions around the world are ramping up vaccine rollout, Stanley Perlman, professor of microbiology and immunology at the University of Iowa, told Xinhua that ... » Learn More about World Insights: Is global COVID-19 pandemic approaching “turning point”

Nickel slumps as electric dreams are rudely disturbed
LONDON: Nickel has endured its worst week in almost ten years, with the London Metal Exchange (LME) price collapsing by 16% in the space of two days to a three-month low of $15,830 per tonne. The trigger for the ferocious sell-off was an announcement by China's Tsingshan Holding Group that it had signed deals to deliver nickel matte to two Chinese battery materials suppliers. Tsingshan has rapidly emerged as one of the world's largest nickel producers, its Indonesian mines pumping nickel pig iron (NPI) into a local stainless steel plant the company brought online in 2017. It is a self-proclaimed disruptor of the stainless steel market and it's now disrupting nickel's bullish electric vehicle narrative. The conversion of NPI to matte for processing into battery-grade nickel sulphate is another twist of nickel's alchemical Rubik's Cube and one which, according to Citi, "could rock the long-term investment case for nickel". The news was certainly enough to rock the ... » Learn More about Nickel slumps as electric dreams are rudely disturbed
