A day after the High Court pulled up authorities for the pitiable state of city roads that claimed a life at Palarivattom, the city police have said that they had, a few months ago, given the agencies concerned a list of 45 roads in the city and its immediate suburbs that were in bad shape and in need of urgent repair works. Among the roads listed included 16 roads maintained by the National Highways Authority of India, 13 held by the Public Works Department, and 10 belonging to the Kochi Corporation. Two roads maintained by the Greater Cochin Development Authority and Kochi Refineries Limited and one road each of Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd. and Goshree Islands Development Authority also figured on the list. Road accidents claims
Many arterial roads and busy side roads in Kochi continue to be dotted with potholes, despite the December 31 deadline set by the Government for repairing them nearing. They include the S.A. Road and Thammanam-Pullepady road maintained by the Kochi Corporation and parts of NHAI-maintained NH bypass where motorists are caught unawares by potholes. Motorists along the PWD (Roads Wing)-owned Banerjee Road beneath the metro corridor have to endure danger lurking in the form of the severely undulated fast track, where the area near Kochi metro pillars is at a higher level than the rest of the road. Motorists, especially two-wheeler riders, stand the risk of being thrown off their vehicles. The PWD has not repaired the Vyttila-Palarivattom road either. Collector’s inspection In the meantime, it is learnt that District Collector S. Suhas would resume direct inspection of roads to verify if the agencies concerned have restored damaged roads. He had pulled up officials of different … [Read more...] about Danger lurks on city roads as deadline for repair nears
MOGA The four-laning of the 78-km stretch on National Highway 95 from Ludhiana to Talwandi Bhai in Ferozepur, which began in 2012, is still incomplete despite missing several deadlines. The project was to be latest completed by 2017. The project has alone missed three deadlines in 2017—March 31, July 31 and December 31. Around 15% work of the project is still to be completed. Despite many extensions, the construction company failed to complete the project and roads constructed by the company have also been found faulty. The construction company was asked to repair the road after it failed to adhere to safety norms. The newly constructed portions of the road bear hundreds of potholes with hardly any uniform gradient on the flyovers. Service lanes have not yet been constructed at many places while works on grade separators were also found incomplete at many locations. Also, a bigger portion of railway over bridge (RoB) over Dagru crossing is yet to be constructed. The work on RoB … [Read more...] about 7 years on, Ludhinana-Talwandi Bhai four-laning project still in limbo
