As of October last year, the organizers have already met the 2,700kg goal for bronze while the silver and gold targets of 4,100kg and 30.3kg respectively, are on track before the end of collection on March 31, 2019. Gymnastics: US Olympic chiefs vow to press on with USA Gymnastics action
LOS ANGELES (AFP) - The United States Olympic Committee (Usoc) said Wednesday (Nov 21) it will press ahead with plans to disband USA Gymnastics, after the scandal-tarnished organisation refused to give up its status as the sport's governing body. Usoc announced earlier this month that Olympic chiefs had begun proceedings to decertify USA Gymnastics, accusing it of failing to grapple with reforms after the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal. Usoc said in a statement Wednesday that USA Gymnastics had responded to the decision in a letter sent to Olympic chiefs on Monday. "In that letter they did not choose to relinquish recognition as a national governing body, and instead asked a series of questions that relate to the matter and the Section 8 hearing process," Usoc chief executive Sarah Hirshland said. Section 8 is the Usoc bylaw that sets out the rules regarding a national governing body being decertified. "Thus, in addition to working with Usag on their questions, we will ensure that … [Read more...] about Gymnastics: US Olympic chiefs vow to press on with USA Gymnastics action

Gymnastics: British Olympic champion Whitlock laid low by Irish nemesis
GLASGOW: Britain's gymnastics golden boy Max Whitlock endured more disappointment on Sunday (Aug 12) as he failed to medal at the European Championships with victory in the pommel horse going instead to Ireland's Rhys McClenaghan. For McClenaghan, who gave Ireland their first ever medal in gymnastics at the European Championships, it added to his growing stature after he took top spot at this year's Commonwealth Games for Northern Ireland, edging out 25-year-old Whitlock on the Gold Coast.Two-time Olympic gold medallist Whitlock remained phlegmatic about the downturn in his fortunes at major championships - at one point in his routine on Sunday he was stranded upright on top of the apparatus."It's just one of those days again and hopefully there won't be many more of them," said Whitlock, who had also missed an element in qualification and failed to reach the floor final - the other event in which he won Olympic gold in Rio - which was won by compatriot Dominick Cunningham."I … [Read more...] about Gymnastics: British Olympic champion Whitlock laid low by Irish nemesis
