Reviving the Iran deal: On Biden attempt to revive JCPOA
U.S. President Joe Biden’s attempts to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), better known as the Iran nuclear deal , have not seen any breakthrough with both sides waiting for the other to blink. The Biden administration says it would return to the deal if Iran starts complying with its terms. Tehran, on the other side, asks the U.S., which unilaterally quit the deal under the Donald Trump administration in May 2018, to return to the agreement first and lift sanctions on Iran. The EU’s efforts to organise direct U.S.-Iran talks were also unsuccessful as Tehran reportedly rejected the offer. Iran has also accelerated its nuclear programme. This game of chicken continues as the clock is ticking. Iran will elect a new President in June. Hassan Rouhani, who bet his presidency on the deal — only to be repudiated by Mr. Trump — cannot stand in a third consecutive election. There is no guarantee that a moderate like Mr. Rouhani would be elected this time. And it is not a ... » Learn More about Reviving the Iran deal: On Biden attempt to revive JCPOA

High housing prices depress spending power
National Bureau of Statistics data show that the increase in housing prices in 70 major Chinese cities from December to January was higher than from November to December. According to the central bank, housing mortgage accounted for 65 percent of residents' loans last year, when residents' financial leverage rate increased to 62.2 percent from 56.1 percent in 2019. Zhang Xiaojing, head of the financial institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attributes the rising leverage rate to soaring real estate prices that boost the fast growth of housing mortgage loans. Zhang said the Chinese residents' housing mortgage was 15.9 percent of the country's gross domestic product in 2010, and the proportion has grown to 40.1 percent now. According to the central bank's survey of more than 30,000 families in 30 provinces and regions in October 2019, 43.4 percent of the families paid housing mortgage, and about 29 percent of their income went toward repaying the loan. US firm report on cyber attack not just about Mumbai: Maharashtra Home Minister
After a US firm claimed a Chinese government-linked group of hackers targeted India's critical power grid system through malware , Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Tuesday said Union Power Minister R K Singh spoke to him over the issue and stressed on the need to remain vigilant. Interacting with media persons outside the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai, Deshmukh said the US company's report on suspected cyber attack on India's power grid should not be seen from a political point of view as it concerns the entire country not just Mumbai or Maharashtra. He said during their telephonic talk, Singh expressed concern over the issue and called for all to remain alert. The home minister on Monday said the massive power outage in Mumbai on October 12 last year may have been the result of a cyber sabotage as he cited a probe report of the state's Cyber Cell. Singapore’s Union Gas considers switch to electric charging at fuel station
SINGAPORE: Singapore fuel distributor Union Gas Holdings Ltd is looking at converting its fuel station to supply electricity from cleaner energy sources such as natural gas , solar and hydrogen , it said on Wednesday. The move comes after Singapore stepped up its target for electric vehicles and charging stations in a 2030 green plan announced in February. Union Gas has commissioned a study from builder Surbana Jurong to redevelop its sole fuel station in the island's west, the companies said in a joint statement. The study will explore options such as adding solar and micro-wind generators, battery storage systems and electric-vehicle charging stations. To be completed in six months, the study may also include a natural gas-based power generation station, they said. The aim is to convert it into a "multi-fuel, multi-energy station" that could be replicated elsewhere in southeast Asia, Union Gas' deputy chief executive, Ng Yong Hwee, told Reuters.
