This comes following an announcement by the Bihar government late on Sunday naming Singh as chief secretary following the retirement of Deepak Kumar who completed his term on February 28. As per the notification issued by the general administration department , the 1985-batch officer will replace incumbent Deepak Kumar who retired a year ago and completed his year-long extension on February 28. Extreme weather events claimed the lives of more than 1.4 lakh people in the last 50 years, with deaths due to occurrences like heat waves and lightning witnessing a rise, according to a paper by country's top meteorologists. It also emphasised the need to develop action plans to prioritise high population states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Maharashtra, Kerala, and West Bengal that suffer from maximum mortalities by EWEs.
