A festive mood enveloped Tadasanahalli village in Shikaripura on Saturday, as Deputy Commissioner K.B. Shivakumar and other senior officers visited the place as part of “Zilladhikari Nade: Halli Kade” programme. The villagers offered officers a grand welcome beating the drums and presenting folk dance performances. The people participated in the procession with enthusiasm. The Deputy Commissioner visited the government primary school in the village, where a health check-up camp was organised. A team of doctors did a general check-up of people. Steroids, for example, were used to treat mild to severe infections much before the recovery trial conducted in the UK showed that it may help save lives, said AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria. Anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine was used widely for prophylaxis, much before a push for the drug from the then US President Donald Trump made headlines. The drug was later discouraged from usage as a multi-country trial ruled out any significant benefit in saving lives or reducing the severity of Covid-19 symptoms. Amid subdued growth in the urban markets, Nestlé India is looking to aggressively expand its footprint in the rural markets, with a target to reach 1,20,000 villages in the next 2-3 years, bolstered by targeted products as well as campaigns, Suresh Narayanan, Chairman and Managing Director, Nestlé India said. Speaking to select mediapersons, Mr. Narayanan said for the next few quarters, the rural market is expected to continue to outpace urban markets in terms of growth. The company had taken steps in the last 2-3 years to enhance the rural footprint and the number stood at 89,000 villages in 2019, from 1,000 villages in 2017, he added. “The target that we have got is to reach 1,20,000 villages — that is all villages with a population of more than 5,000.
