Composer-singer-actor Himesh Reshamiyya says his upcoming romantic drama Happy Hardy And Heer revolves around the concept of friend-zoning. He also added that he is happy with the audience response to the music of the film. "It's a beautiful love story. It's about a character named Harpreet Singh Lamba who has been friend-zoned. We have often seen that a girl or a boy accepts you as a friend but not as a boyfriend or a girlfriend, and that is what happens with Harpreet, or Happy. Sonia Mann plays the female lead, and the film has been shot in Scotland. We are going to launch the trailer of the film soon," said Himesh, while promoting the film at Mumbai's Mithibai College along with singer Amaal Mallik. He plays a double role for the first time, as Happy and Hardy. Talking about audience response to the music, Himesh said, "I am very happy being here and interacting with students. Why rural China is worth exploring
While visiting Tongxiang, a county-level city in Zhejiang south of Taihu Lake, the view from my hotel window was of farming on plots of land surrounded by low-rise apartment buildings. I had often seen this across Southern China, where rapid urban growth was swallowing farmland. In earlier days, the relationship between rural and urban communities was much clearer. Today with urbanization, supermarket shopping has increasingly seen traditional markets disappear. My interest in the landscape and of the urban-rural relationship comes from my background as a geographer. In 1987 my initial impressions of China were of how different it was to my homeland, Scotland. The landscape was much more diverse than I had expected. Agricultural patterns and activities along with village architecture would change both steadily and radically. This was a response to climate, water availability, the terrain, whether flat or sloping, and fertility of the soil. I was transfixed by the beauty of the … [Read more...] about Why rural China is worth exploring
Discovering Confucius’ legacy through travel
At Tianjin's Shangri-La Hotel, I watched with fascination a historic daily pageant performed in its expansive lobby. Artists dressed in elegant costumes went through classical rituals. The troupe was brought north by the tourism bureau of Shandong province's Qufu, hometown of renowned philosopher and writer Confucius. Visitors to Qufu can experience these reenactments today, as Confucian tourism is a major driver of that city's economy. I was fixated as they moved gracefully against backdrops displaying insights into that great sage's longstanding legacy. It also provided a chance to reflect on my earlier days of China travel. Those journeys across this vast land were always a learning experience. At school level back in my native Scotland, very little was understood of Confucius or his influence on Chinese thought and culture. But I would at times, hear things like, "As Confucius said, 'do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you.'" As a geographer, I also became … [Read more...] about Discovering Confucius’ legacy through travel

Scotch whisky collection up for auction
Some of the world's rarest bottles of whisky will go to auction in the new year as part of what is believed to be the largest whisky collection ever offered for public sale. The so-called Perfect Collection of more than 3,900 bottles of primarily single malt scotch whiskies was built up by private collector Richard Gooding, the former owner and president of the Pepsi Bottling Company of Denver, one of the largest soft-drink distributors in the United States. He built his collection over the decades, traveling to and from Scotland with his pilot in search of rare bottles at auctions and distilleries, before his death in 2014. Items include bottles from the Macallan, Bowmore and Springbank, and even some from lost distilleries including Old Orkney and Dallas Dhu. Auction organizers Whisky Auctioneer have said some individual bottles are valued at more than 1 million pounds ($1.3 million) and there are even some that have never been seen before in auction. In October, a bottle of The … [Read more...] about Scotch whisky collection up for auction
