Video Player Close BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The purchasing managers' index (PMI) for China's non-manufacturing sector came in at 51.4 in February, down from 52.4 of January, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Sunday. A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while a reading below it reflects contraction. In February, the sub-index for business activities in the services sector stood at 50.8, dropping from 51.1 in January. This indicated China's services sector continued to expand, yet at a slower pace, said Zhao Qinghe, senior statistician at NBS, while analyzing the February reading. In breakdown, consumption-related segments such as retail sales, catering and entertainment logged increases in business activities, Zhao said. The sub-indexes for business activities in telecommunications and satellite transmission as well as financial services came in at above 58, indicating steady growth of business volume in these areas, according to Zhao. Indian economy recovering? But where and how
Policy pre-requisites for corporate earnings growth are being ignored T he fourth quarter of the last financial year, 2014-15, was an unmitigated disaster for Indian companies. Even after adjusting for extraordinary items, profits for the universe of the top 1,600 companies listed on the stock exchanges shrank by 19 per cent year on year. Profit growth for the blue chips on the Nifty was not very different; for the Sensex, the fall was around nine per cent. (All these numbers, and those that follow, exclude banks and financial companies, as is the convention. They are also marginally sensitive to exactly how you account for one-time write-offs, and so on.) Over the entire financial year, Sensex companies recorded no profit growth -- the first time that’s happened in a decade and half, if you exclude the crisis year of 2008-09. We’re in the middle of the season in which results are declared for the first quarter of this financial year, 2015-16, and the early news is not ... » Learn More about Indian economy recovering? IISER Kolkata scientists simulate Mars on the computer, suggest how it lost its atmosphere
A new and exciting field in astronomy to study exoplanets and gauge whether they possess conditions that will favour the presence and sustainability of life. In this quest, an important part is looking at our own celestial backyard to gain insights – hence the many missions to Mars and Venus probing for signs of past life. One thing that astronomers search for in exoplanets, in the so-called Goldilocks zone of habitability, is the existence of liquid water and an atmosphere like that on Earth. In this context it is believed by many that Mars once had such an atmosphere. The mechanism as to why it lost its atmosphere has remained in doubt. Scientists from Indian Institution for Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata suggest that it was the planet’s intrinsic magnetic dynamo which, by shielding its atmosphere from the sun’s solar wind, protected its atmosphere. When the magnetic dynamo switched off, the atmosphere slowly was eroded by the solar wind and eventually vanished, ... » Learn More about IISER Kolkata scientists simulate Mars on the computer, suggest how it lost its atmosphere

It grew 46 % to about $ 10 billion since 2014. “Mexico is now India’s largest trading partner in Latin America and the second largest in entire America after the U.S. and has overtaken Canada and Brazil. Our trade is also fairly well balanced with only about $1 billion in India’s favour,” Mr. Vohra said. The Ambassador said that one of the most important products in the bilateral trade was garments and textiles. India was among Mexico’s top suppliers in this segment.
