People with Type 2 Diabetes (TED) should opt for eggs for breakfast, a recent study suggests. According to the findings, a high-fat, low-carb breakfast (LCBF) can help those with T2D control blood sugar levels throughout the day.“The large blood sugar spike that follows breakfast is due to the combination of pronounced insulin resistance in the morning in people with T2D and because typical Western breakfast foods - cereal, oatmeal, toast and fruit - are high in carbohydrates,” said Jonathan Little, lead author of the study published in the Journal of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.According to Little, breakfast is consistently the “problem” meal that leads to the largest blood sugar spikes for people with T2D. The research shows that eating a low-carb and high-fat meal first thing in the morning, is a simple way to prevent this large spike, improve glycemic control throughout the day, and can perhaps also reduce … [Read more...] about Eggs for breakfast benefit those with Type 2 diabetes

Speaking to The Australian, Transurban chief executive Scott Charlton said the company had spent nearly $700 million on an express lanes project in the US state of Virginia, providing quicker access to the Pentagon precinct. The tolled express lanes, which operate alongside the free lanes, use dynamic pricing that changes depending on traffic speed and density. Vehicles that have more than three occupants, motorbikes and buses use the express lanes for free. “A similar concept could be done here in Australia with bus lanes or transit lanes,” Mr Charlton told The Australian. “A fair part of the day they are not occupied. Could you pay to access those if you get a better run? There could be options for some of the major roads to use express lanes. We have always struggled with the politics here because there is a misconception in Australia this type of thing would just be for the wealthy.” Soon you could pay to beat the traffic.Source:News Limited He added, … [Read more...] about Would you pay to use the bus lane? By Jack Ewing LAUSANNE (Switzerland): Mark Schneider, the chief executive of the Swiss food giant Nestlé, gripped a bun-clad concoction that looked like a bacon cheeseburger but contained no actual bacon, cheese or beef. He took a bite. It was a faux-meat, dairy-free mouthful symbolizing what may be the future of the food industry. It was also a manifestation of how big corporations like Nestlé are responding to increasingly intense pressure to help fight climate change. Vegan burgers, Schneider said, are a response to rising consumer concern about the healthiness of red meat and to criticism that cattle farming is bad for the climate. “The reason I like the plant-based so much is this is where the two kind of connect,” he said at Nestlé’s research and development center in Lausanne. “There’s an environmental side to it, and there’s a healthy nutrition side to it.” Nestlé, the world’s largest food company, is in … [Read more...] about Nestlé says it can be virtuous and profitable.
