Govt to focus on maintaining economic stability after polls, says Sri Mulyani
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has said the government will focus on maintaining economic stability following the relatively peaceful presidential and legislative elections on Wednesday. Multiple quick counts have shown that incumbent President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who ran with senior Muslim cleric Ma’ruf Amin, leads Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno. Prabowo, however, claimed victory on Wednesday, saying his camp’s internal quick count showed he was leading. “We are still waiting for the official counts from the General Commissions Election [KPU], although the market has already reacted to the quick-count results,” said Sri Mulyani in Jakarta on Thursday. “We will continue to [work to] maintain Indonesia’s economic stability.” The stock market appeared to have positively responded to the smooth election as the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) – the main gauge of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) – was up 0.61 percent to 6,521 during Thursday morning trade. Self-radicalised youth went from ISIS supporter to star student with rehabilitation: ISD
SINGAPORE - While many of his peers were online to chat with friends or do research for homework, Daniel (not his real name) in 2017 was using the Internet for a sinister purpose. Only 15 years old then, he was already walking down the dark path of radicalisation - aligning himself to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group, which was spreading its propaganda through online channels. In September that year, he posted on social media images of President Halimah Yacob that he had defaced, and called on ISIS to behead her. It triggered an investigation by the Internal Security Department (ISD). The department learnt that the boy was introduced to pro-ISIS social media groups by a foreign online contact. Through these groups, he gained access to what he believed was exclusive ISIS content. It gave him a surge of confidence which boosted his self-esteem and sense of belonging. Recounting the case on Wednesday (Feb 3) in a release, the ISD said Daniel became ... » Learn More about Self-radicalised youth went from ISIS supporter to star student with rehabilitation: ISD

He said after two months of planning, the temple located at Jalan Dato Esa, Tampoi, opened the car wash on a piece of land located behind it. “We believe this is a first in Johor where a car wash is fully operated and managed by a Hindu temple. “This is a timely effort as we are planning to renovate next year, as Hindu temples usually undergo refurbishment every 12 years, ” he said after the launch of the car wash earlier this month. Covid-19: Nigerian variant does not affect ability to detect, trace infected persons
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Nigerian variant B1.525 of Covid-19 has important mutations in its spike protein but they do not affect the ability to detect or trace a person infected with the variant, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) . The Health director-general said this is because existing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kits use multiple targets to detect variants even though that person can be asymptomatic. "Currently, no data suggests that this variant is of more virulence or causes increased fatality, ” he said in a media statement Saturday (March 6) in response to questions on the Nigerian variant. From laboratory study reports, Dr Noor Hisham said, mutation E484K which was also seen in other variants, including the South African (B.1.351) and Brazilian (P.1) variants, had been associated with some level of resistance to neutralising antibodies which were needed to confer protection. The resistance means a possible reduction in the effectiveness of natural ... » Learn More about Covid-19: Nigerian variant does not affect ability to detect, trace infected persons
