The ongoing massive rehabilitation of Marawi will propel the country’s only Islamic City to rise again, modern and prosperous. To say that it is overwhelming to be an instrument for the realization of other people’s dreams is an understatement. I had that great feeling last Thursday, Feb. 25, when we awarded permanent shelters to 109 families of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Marawi City. Today, these families have houses they can call their own—a dream being pursued by no less than our President Duterte for every Filipino family. A momentous day indeed. Permanent shelters It was the first time that the government, through Task Force Bangon Marawi and its partner agencies, turned over permanent shelters to Marawi IDPs since the massive rehabilitation in this city started. To recall, Daesh-inspired terrorists attempted to seize Marawi City, which led to a five month battle that started in May 2017 and ended in October. Seeing the beneficiaries, who donned their ... » Learn More about Marawi City’s Hadiya Village: A gift to IDPs

Thailand News Today | Pattaya bank scam & Burmese coup update | February 2
CORRECTION: In the first story Jett referred to a Chinese man losing 130 billion baht. The correct amount was 130 million baht. We apologise for the error. Hundreds, perhaps more than 400, investors have been defrauded by a bank manager at a Kasikorn bank branch in Pattaya. The manager, named in a police report as “Mr. Gob”, was promising investors 3.5% interest, per month, yes… PER MONTH… for cash investments. It appears his high interest rate attracted hundreds of people wanting to take advantage of the generous terms. One investor, who only found out about the scam yesterday when he visited the branch for his monthly rolling over of funds, told The Thaiger that he has lost 250,000 baht at this stage, with no official response from the Kasikorn head office in Bangkok yet being made about the situation. Mr B, who has asked us to protect his identity, knows of some investors who invested many millions of baht and even one Chinese man who had allegedly invested 130 million ... » Learn More about Thailand News Today | Pattaya bank scam & Burmese coup update | February 2
Derby doubts for Man United
FOLLOWING the humiliation of crashing out of the Champions League in midweek, Manchester United now face the prospect of a thumping by bitter cross-town rivals Man City. At least that is what it looks like on paper. However, derbies have over the years clearly and rather explicitly shown us that the formbook often counts for little – or nothing at all. With this, City can expect a spirited showing by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side when they visit Old Trafford today, in what has been billed as the match of the weekend. Unsurprisingly, some Man United detractors have taken the liberty on social media and other platforms to suggest that the Red Devils’ boss will not see out Christmas in his present post. A heavy defeat today could well end Solskjaer’s tenure at the Theatre of Dreams, despite public support for him from the Man United’s board of directors just the other day. The Norwegian, who is favoured rather mightily by their hierarchy, will know only too well that football is a ... » Learn More about Derby doubts for Man United
Myanmar used tear gas to disperse rallyists
YANGON: Police in Myanmar repeatedly used tear gas and rubber bullets Tuesday against crowds protesting last month’s coup, but the demonstrators regrouped after each volley and tried to defend themselves with barricades as standoffs between protesters and security forces intensified. Authorities have escalated their crackdown on the protests in recent days. The United Nations said it believed at least 18 people were killed on Sunday when security forces fired into crowds, while a rights group said more than 1,000 people were detained over the weekend, including an Associated Press journalist. A lawyer for the journalist said he has been charged with an offense that could see him imprisoned for up to three years. Despite the increasingly brutal crackdown, demonstrators have continued to flood the streets — and are beginning to more rigorously resist attempts to disperse them. Hundreds, many wearing construction helmets and carrying makeshift shields, gathered in Myanmar’s ... » Learn More about Myanmar used tear gas to disperse rallyists

Top 10 Tourist Attractions in Chiang Rai: Excluding Temples
Chiang Rai – This beautiful city in Thailand has a history that goes further back than its more than three-decade duration as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom. It is considered one of the oldest settlements in Thailand. Although it might not be as popular as Chang Mai in terms of tourism, what makes it a perfect destination is the strong affiliation with the Tai culture – the origin of the Lanna People – which can be seen virtually everywhere around the city. Despite the strong cultural affiliation, the city is evolving through new art to modernize the Lanna culture in a bid to offer a new perspective for visitors looking to understand what it means to belong to the Lanna Culture. However, before you leave on your vacation, you have to make sure that you have everything in place. From your tickets to your hotels being booked. But most especially, you need to make sure you bought your travel insurance to protect you from unexpected expenses that might result from health issues, ... » Learn More about Top 10 Tourist Attractions in Chiang Rai: Excluding Temples
Crunch time for under-fire Solskjaer
MAN Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is once again the favourite with the bookies to get the sack. This has been a position that the Norwegian has been all too familiar with in a so far inconsistent season for the Red Devils. Man Utd were dumped out of the Champions League in midweek by German side RB Leipzig and today face a crucial derby at Old Trafford against neighbours Man City and anything less than a positive result against their hated rivals will surely put Solskjaer under more intense pressure. Man Utd were sloppy in their defeat in Germany and a loss was exactly what they deserved as their defence was in sixes and sevens trying to stop the Leipzig attack. Having started with impressive wins over PSG and a 5-0 home thrashing of Leipzig, the exit from the Champions League is a painful and frustrating one to take. Poor defending has dominated the side’s performances so far this season but the inconsistency of the squad is baffling, especially when playing at home. Their ... » Learn More about Crunch time for under-fire Solskjaer
China’s Communist Regime Must Face Judgment Over Coronavirus
As the coronavirus ravages the world – killing, shattering families, destroying jobs and businesses, ripping through economies, threatening still worse in some of the poorest countries – we know or certain China’s Communist lied. First, Covid-19 began in Wuhan. Second, the early signs and spread of the virus were covered up. Third, the Chinese Communist party has consistently lied about these issues and has exploited the world’s preoccupations with fighting the pandemic to flex its muscles globally – hectoring, bullying and breaking its word. We should be clear about something else. This is not the fault of the Chinese people. Brave Chinese doctors and nurses, like our own, have lost their lives fighting the disease. We know three things for certain: coronavirus started in Wuhan, the early signs of the virus were covered up and the Chinese Communist Party lied about the spread of the virus. This is not, however, the fault of the Chinese people, as brave doctors and nurses in ... » Learn More about China’s Communist Regime Must Face Judgment Over Coronavirus
