FasRaP contains a proprietary glue-like resin which acts as an adhesive for the wrap developed by NTU materials scientists. Nanyang Technological University A ready-to-stick wrap is not something you’d expect to help buildings and infrastructure withstand extreme loads and bomb blasts. A team of scientists in Singapore have created a new type of material that has been tested to strengthen buildings – and even make them bomb-resistant. How the wrap works The FasRaP – short for Fast Wrapping Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) – is created using commercially available glass fibres. MO Bar at Mandarin Oriental hotel is the latest bar in town - and it offers serious views. See Marina Bay through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Go at sunset and your heart will swell with pride over how gorgeous our country looks. Singapore has some incredible bars ranked on best-of lists worldwide and MO Bar could be joining them. Besides the jaw-dropping views, it seems to have found a balance between amazing drinks and great bar bites. I have not had such a good time with food and drinks since Anti:Dote. Since this is a bar, let us start with the cocktails. I don't drink if I can help it, but I would gladly down some of these cocktails. Serious alcohol fans may dismiss my views, which is fine, but think of this as a guide for the rest of us who only tipple when the occasion or temptation calls for it. Bar manager Michele Mariotti has worked in top bars across Europe and lands in Singapore with a special drink programme. My favourite is the Sea Beast ($28). Sitting on top of this … [Read more...] about Weets Eats: MO Bar serves up great food, drinks and view

Without them, your whole body tingles with discomfort. If you forget them, you have to make a beeline for the nearest store – your day depends on it. Yes – you, my friend, are a lip balm addict. Well, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. There is no need to check yourself into rehab or for your friends and family to stage an intervention. As it turns out, the oft-overlooked lip balm is more important than most people think.“The skin on our lips requires special care as it is much finer,” said Dr Eileen Tan, a dermatologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. “Our lips are exposed to a number of environment assaults such as dry weather or medical conditions like sinusitis, whereby the mouth and lips get dry because of … [Read more...] about Have you been neglecting this important part of your face?
Thailand’s Greyhound Cafe began its sprint in Bangkok 20 years ago and has since dashed to Hong Kong, Mainland China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore – 17 franchises opened in all. In December the race reached London, with its first outlet in Europe. Greyhound Cafe London, representing a Bt150-million investment, is on Berners Street in the trendy Fitzrovia area, a short walk from Soho. Executive creative director and co-founder Bhanu Inkawat regards London as “a window on Europe”, so maybe the Greyhound’s not finished running yet. “We want to reinforce our statement here and make it a success to pave a smooth path to overseas ventures in Europe,” Bhanu says. Industrially chic and mainly trimmed in black, like its sister branches, Greyhound London has walls of mosaic tiles with Thai lettering, rustic brick, corrugated iron and exposed metal ducts. One wall is a blackboard on which the evolving menu is printed by hand, … [Read more...] about In London, Thai with your tea
