MANILA, Philippines — It was late last year that Lexus introduced the UX 200. Back then they introduced it as an “Urban Explorer” design that offers a fresh take on luxury lifestyle also touted to have the widest field of vision and best turning radius of any subcompact SUV Amazing attention to detail in every inch of the finely crafted interior. I recently got behind the wheel of the UX 200 — and I liked it. Popular Chinese short video apps Kuaishou and Douyin have started testing longer-form videos among selected users after their short video formats took the Chinese internet by storm. Starting this month, some Kuaishou users have been able to upload videos that run as long as 10 minutes. The Chinese online news site 36kr reported that the new function will be available for all users in future, but for now most people can only record videos of 11 second and 57 second duration on the platform. Kuaishou, backed by Chinese internet giant Tencent Holdings, declined to comment on the new video function and its plans for long-form videos. However Kuaishou, which became popular for its clips of stunts and pranks by users in small Chinese towns, originally chose the 57 second video limit after using artificial intelligence to test user behaviour, according to a 2017 article written for tech media TMT by the company's then chief content officer Zeng Guangming. On the Douyin platform operated by … [Read more...] about China’s short video apps experiment with longer-form content

Jakarta. Indonesia's recently re-elected president, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, outlined his visions for his new term last week. One of them emphasized plans to improve the country's human resource. "Human resource development is Indonesia's key in the future, and its starting point is to ensure the health of pregnant women, infants, toddlers and school children. This is a golden age to create superior Indonesians for the future," Jokowi said in Bogor, West Java, last week. Up until this year, Indonesia is still among the five countries with the highest number of stunting cases in the world. The president said in his speech that he did not want to hear any more cases of stunting, malnutrition or high maternal and child mortality in the next five years. The government is now left with a huge task. Indonesia is expected to receive a demographic bonus in 2030 when Indonesia's young population comes of age. By … [Read more...] about What Else Can Jokowi Do to Fight Stunting?
Chevrolet’s all-new Captiva will hit Thai showrooms with a focus on real-world usability rather than driving dynamics. Chevrolet is like a nomadic brand of General Motors wandering around the globe in search of partners for new products. Thailand’s opening-model some 20 years back was a seven-seat MPV, merely a rebadged Opel Zafira from GM’s sold European subsidiary. Then there’s the Colorado (and its Trailblazer SUV cousin) which shared a skeleton with the D-Max (and MU-X SUV) from Japan’s commercial vehicle specialist Isuzu. The American bow-tie brand also had its days with passenger cars like the Optra, Sonic and Cruze coming from GM Daewoo, a Korean operation that has already gone bankrupt. In fact, the car-based Captiva SUV was also developed at GM Daewoo. So where will the pending second-generation Captiva come from? No problem, as GM is now being really open, so to speak, about its 20-year-plus relationship with Chinese maker SAIC. So yes, the new … [Read more...] about 2019 Chevrolet Captiva first drive review
