A trip in a Grab car took an unexpected turn when a woman gave birth on the way to the hospital. Pre-school teacher Nur Syazwani Muhammad Rosdi, 25, experienced strong contractions on last Wednesday evening, and she and her husband booked a Grab ride to take them to Thomson Medical Centre. The couple, who live in the Canberra area, were 10 minutes into their journey when Ms Syazwani's water broke. She wrote in a Facebook post on Friday: "I tried to control my body, the contractions and every other pain that (came) along. Then, my body decided to go into active labour. I decided to throw my dignity out of the car window... My body was telling me to push the baby out. I did." When Ms Syazwani told her husband, Mr Kamarulnizam Kiman, that the baby was crowning, he initially panicked as he tried to make sense of the situation. Jakarta. Indonesia's recently re-elected president, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, outlined his visions for his new term last week. One of them emphasized plans to improve the country's human resource. "Human resource development is Indonesia's key in the future, and its starting point is to ensure the health of pregnant women, infants, toddlers and school children. This is a golden age to create superior Indonesians for the future," Jokowi said in Bogor, West Java, last week. Up until this year, Indonesia is still among the five countries with the highest number of stunting cases in the world. The president said in his speech that he did not want to hear any more cases of stunting, malnutrition or high maternal and child mortality in the next five years. The government is now left with a huge task. Indonesia is expected to receive a demographic bonus in 2030 when Indonesia's young population comes of age. KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has been urged to apply parenting elements in the driving school curriculum to enhance knowledge pertaining to children passenger safety practices. Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh said a letter of recommendation on the matter was sent to RTD. “Although most applicants of driving licence are 18 years old and still single, they should know about the safety of children in their cars to avoid any untoward incident such as accidents involving children,” she said. Yeoh was speaking to reporters after presenting hats to the residents in conjunction with Father’s Day celebration in Medan Damansara today. Asked on the incident involving a two-year-old girl who died after being left for more than two hours in the car in Sabah on Wednesday, Yeoh said parents must check their vehicle every time they went out to make sure no one was left behind. “Please do not take it for granted because … [Read more...] about RTD urged to apply parenting elements in driving course
By Rob Ferguson Queen's Park Bureau Tues., May 14, 2019 Premier Doug Ford is calling the Toronto District School Board’s warning of a $67.8 million budget shortfall a “scare tactic” and a political stunt as a war of words escalates over provincial education cuts. “The numbers that the TDSB put out are absolutely reckless,” the premier said Tuesday, a day after the board revealed its cash crunch is $13 million worse than expected and could result in cuts to guidance counsellors, learning and reading coaches, custodians and busing of French immersion students, among other services. “Political stunts like this only serve to cause anxiety with parents and with students,” Ford added, describing school boards as “out of control.” Board director John Malloy detailed the numbers at a special meeting, saying staff learned late Friday from the Ministry of Education that provincial cuts to the TDSB will total $42.1 … [Read more...] about Doug Ford dismisses school budget forecast as a ‘scare tactic’
