Opinion: Enabling Environment for Implementation of Farm Laws through FPOs
By M. Srikanth and P Saravanan The government is stubborn to repeal, the farmers are reluctant to yield and the entire nation has become restless over the stalemate on implementation of farm laws . Though the government held multiple rounds of talks with the farmers by opting for some amendments in the agricultural bills, the issue has been simmering much to the consternation of all stakeholders. Hence, we propose to look at three important channels as to how to create enabling environment to implement the farm laws: i) enhancing the collective bargaining power of the farmers through promotion of farmer producer organizations (FPOs) ii) developing robust agricultural infrastructure and value chains and iii) empowering the agrarian households through imparting financial and digital literacy and ultimately making them successful agri-entrepreneurs in the long run.
