Tata Motors hit an over sixmonth high on Friday as the Boris Johnson-led Conservative Party won the elections in the UK – an important market for the company. The stock, which surged as much as 6% to a high of ₹183.90, pared some gains, ending nearly 2% up at ₹176.65.British Prime Minister Johnson has promised to deliver on Brexit, which is seen as a sentimental positive for Indian companies with exposure to the UK as it removes a factor of uncertainty. Ratan Tata and his team faced "humiliation" when they went to sell the group's fledgling car business to Ford in 1999, but came back to "do a big favour" just nine years later by taking over the American giant's marquee brands Jaguar and Land Rover."They told us 'you do not know anything, why did you start the passenger car division at all'. Bullish on Jaguar Land Rover, top industrialist Ratan Tata has hinted at Tatas manufacturing these marquee brands in India, Eastern Europe and the US, even as he advised against "running before one can walk".Tata, who steered the expansion of USD 103-billion Indian group for over two decades with a number of takeovers such as Jaguar Land Rover, also said that once he thought there was "no talent or capability in the UK" and he would not have been attracted to JLR had his views not changed."Making an investment in the UK would have been a much more arduous decision," Tata told PTI in an interview here. NEW DELHI: IIM Shillong has completed its placement season for the batch of 2016-18. Its Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) witnessed the completion of final placements for its largest batch size till date. With its consistent performance this season, the Institute recorded a median CTC of Rs 16 lakh per annum, witnessing a significant increase of 14% over the last year. The highest domestic CTC stood at Rs 26 lakh per annum. The recruitment drive saw participation from 41 recruiters and 169 participants, while two participants would be pursuing their entrepreneurial ventures. The mean CTC for the batch stood at Rs 15.51 lakh per annum. Noticeably, the mean for the top 20% of the batch stood at Rs 21 lakh per annum, while that for the top half increased to Rs 18.5 lakh per annum.
