News Duterte OKs higher pensions for disabled workers
MANILA—President Rodrigo Duterte has signed an executive order increasing the monthly pension of disabled workers. Duterte signed EO No. 54 on Tuesday providing a P1,150 across-the-board increase in the employees’ compensation for permanently disabled pensioners in the private sector and qualified beneficiaries in the public sector. The increase is effective from January 2017. The EO also orders the Social Security System’s (SSS) continued distribution of at least P2,000 in monthly disability and survivorship pension in the private sector. For the beneficiaries of deceased pensioners, the EO states that the SSS shall continue to grant them 80% to 100% of the pensioners’ monthly benefits. Carers’ allowance in the public and private sectors shall also be increased from P575 to P1,000.
