Our test car’s as-tested price is $57,500. The Model 3 is packed with really interesting features such as a minimalist interior, advanced infotainment, and Tesla Autopilot. There have been few cars more sought after in recent memory than the Tesla Model 3. It’s Tesla’s first foray into the mass market after dominating the luxury electric vehicle segment for much of the past decade. Recently, Business Insider had the chance to spend a few hours with a brand new Model 3 on the road in and around New York City. … [Read more...] about We drove a $58,000 Tesla Model 3 and were blown away by its minimalistic design and high-tech features. By NEAL E. BOUDETTE The New York Times Thu., May 31, 2018 When Consumer Reports reviewed Tesla’s first mass-market electric car, the Model 3, it concluded that it couldn’t recommend the car to its readers because of “big flaws,” including long stopping distances when braking at high speed. Within days, Tesla beamed a wireless software update to the Model 3s on the road that improved their braking, and the impact was swift. After testing the car again, Consumer Reports reversed the verdict Wednesday, only nine days after its original report was published, and gave the car a “recommended” rating. “To see something updated that quickly is quite remarkable,” said Jake Fisher, the magazine’s director of auto testing. Other manufacturers have made software fixes to correct issues that Consumer Reports has identified, but owners then have to take their cars to dealers to have the update installed. caption The Tesla Model 3. source Hollis Johnson/Business Insider The Tesla Model 3 and the Chevy Bolt are your two main choices if you’re in the market for an all-electric vehicle with 200-plus-mile range. The Model 3 has a base price of $35,000, and the Bolt has the base price of $37,500, and a $7,500 federal tex credit is available for both. We found that head-to-head, two very different cars wound up in a surprising dead heat. Last year, we were so impressed by the Chevy Bolt that we named it a 2017 Car of the Year runner up. Early this year, we spent some time getting to know the hotly anticipated Tesla Model 3. We haven’t properly reviewed the Tesla Model 3 yet, but we will later in 2018. In the meantime, we thought it might be worth it see how the two vehicles stack up against each other. Read on to find out what we thought. Let’s start with the Chevy Bolt, in … [Read more...] about We drove a $57,500 Tesla Model 3 and a $43,000 Chevy Bolt to see which is better — here’s the verdict
caption Tesla’s Model 3 has a lot of strong qualities. source Hollis Johnson/Business Insider Both Business Insider and Consumer Reports have recently sampled the Tesla Model 3. We mostly agreed about the car’s quality. But we differed on a few important points. CR and BI will review the Model 3 more extensively later in 2018. We recently tested the Tesla Model 3, for a brief period – about three hours. Myself and Business Insider’s senior transportation reporter Ben Zhang came way impressed. But we were impressed with the Model 3 as a car, not just a piece of advanced technology with four wheels. We think this is important because the Tesla Model 3 has to do more than satisfy early adopting techies who don’t care about ride quality or performance. Ben and I test dozens of vehicles every year, and often they’re high-end, big-ticket luxury cars and SUVs … [Read more...] about The first Tesla Model 3 reviews are coming in — and one thing stands out
The Tesla Model 3 has the most minimalist interior we’ve ever seen in a production car. Not every decision was brilliant, but most were, and the ultimate impression is extremely satisfying. The Model 3’s interior design is a powerful symbol of both the company’s philosophy and what it believes cars should be like in the future. Tesla has reset expectations with the interior of the Model 3, the company’s mass-market vehicle. We’d already spent some time with the car at a launch event for the $35,000 all-electric machine at Tesla’s California factory in July. At the time, I wrote that it was the most minimalist auto interior I’d ever seen. I experienced the Model 3 for only about 15 minutes back then. But this time Tesla let us borrow a bright red Model 3 for several hours. My colleague Ben Zhang and I drove it around Manhattan and New Jersey, and we took in the Zen-like interior … [Read more...] about The Tesla Model 3 interior is unlike anything we have ever seen before
