caption Thai Airways International is introducing a waistline limit for business-class seats on its Boeing 787-9 aircraft. source Athit Perawongmetha / Reuters Thai Airways International announced a 56-inch waistline limit for passengers sitting in business class on its Boeing 787-9 aircraft, according to the Bangkok Post. The airline said it introduced the limit due to seatbelt airbags it installed that prevent the seat belts from extending. The seatbelt airbags will also prevent parents from flying with children on their laps. Airlines have no shortage of ways to divide and categorize passengers, but most of those ways involve how much money a customer spends with them. Now, Thai Airways International is evaluating passengers based on their waist size. Prathana Pattanasiri, vice president of the airline’s aviation safety, security, and standards department, announced a 56-inch waistline limit … [Read more...] about An airline is banning larger people from business class — and it’s part of a trend sweeping the industry
Passengers intending to fly business class on Thai Airways’ new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will have to first pass the waist test (that’s ‘waist’ not ‘waste’!). Flight Lieutenant Pratthana Pattanasirim, THAI’s director of security and flight standard division, says that a passenger with waist bigger than 56 inches (142 cm) cannot fly business class on the fleet’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft. He explained that the business class seats have been installed with new safety belts and an airbag system by the manufacturer in accordance with the safety standards of the US Federal Aviation Administration. He claims the safety belt cannot accommodate a passenger whose waist is larger than 56 inches. Pratthana said the new safety-belt system cannot accommodate a parent with a child sitting on his or her lap hence parents travelling with young children also cannot fly business class on the airline’s Dreamliner aircraft. THAI received the two … [Read more...] about Fatties in Thai Business Class? Mai dai!
Thai Airways International added two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its fleet in September last year. (Bangkok Post file photo) Thai Airways International (THAI) says the limit on waist sizes for passengers, and ban on carrying infants on laps, in business class on its two Boeing 787-9 aircraft is a consequence of the installation of seat belt airbags for safety. The national carrier added the two Boeing Dreamliners to its fleet in September last year and the aircraft manufacturer had installed new airbags on seatbelts for business class seats. This meant that passengers with a waistline of over 56 inches (142.24cms) could not fasten these new seatbelt airbags, which meet US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety standards, Flt Lt Prathana Pattanasiri, vice president of THAI’s aviation safety, security and standards department said on Friday. Passengers in those seats also could not carry infants on their laps. This type of seatbelt could not be extended because of the … [Read more...] about THAI cites safety for waistline rule on Dreamliners
