Thai Airways International has expressed its commitment to help boost tourist arrivals to Indonesia, particularly to Jakarta and Bali from Bangkok, a major city tourist destination with about 20 million arrivals annually. “Thai Airways would like to increase the number of flights from Bangkok to Jakarta and Bali, but there is concern about facilities and slot times in Jakarta and Denpasar,” Thai Airways district sales manager in Jakarta Abdul Azis Maliki told The Jakarta Post on the sidelines of an event to promote the airline’s Live TV onboard entertainment in Bangkok, recently. Thai Airways cooperates with tourism boards in Korea, Japan, Dubai, India, Australia and Europe, and its base in Bangkok has many connecting flights from various countries to Jakarta and Bali, he added. Passengers intending to fly business class on Thai Airways’ new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will have to first pass the waist test (that’s ‘waist’ not ‘waste’!). Flight Lieutenant Pratthana Pattanasirim, THAI’s director of security and flight standard division, says that a passenger with waist bigger than 56 inches (142 cm) cannot fly business class on the fleet’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft. He explained that the business class seats have been installed with new safety belts and an airbag system by the manufacturer in accordance with the safety standards of the US Federal Aviation Administration. He claims the safety belt cannot accommodate a passenger whose waist is larger than 56 inches. Pratthana said the new safety-belt system cannot accommodate a parent with a child sitting on his or her lap hence parents travelling with young children also cannot fly business class on the airline’s Dreamliner aircraft. THAI received the two … [Read more...] about Fatties in Thai Business Class? Mai dai!
