The Idol Wing CID has registered a case against a senior official of the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, maintained by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, and five others based on a complaint alleging theft of ancient idols and precious artefacts belonging to the shrine. The case was registered on Wednesday based on a direction from the Madras High Court to the Idol Wing CID to conduct a thorough investigation into the complaint preferred by Rangarajan Narasimhan of Srirangam. Mr. Narasimhan claimed that several idols and precious artefacts belonging to the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple were stolen during the period 2012-2017. Police said the six persons have been booked under IPC sections including 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) and under section 25 (2) of The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972. Three Delhi Police officers have been booked for allegedly trying to extort money from two persons in Dwarka’s Mohan Garden, the police said on Thursday. They said that two of the officers have been suspended and disciplinary action is being taken against the third.A senior police officer said that in the last week of November, two persons — one hailing from Himachal Pradesh and another from Rajasthan who work in Mohali — had come to Delhi and were on Najafgarh Road in their car. The victims had stopped to buy fruits when a person in civil dress approached them and introduced himself as a Narcotics Cell officer. “The victims said that the man searched their car and interrogated them. He took out around ₹9,000 from their wallet alleging that they were supplying drugs. Man booked for cheating job aspirants at Kariyapatti
Virudhunagar District Crime Branch has booked R. Radhakrishnan and his wife, Sitalakshmi, on charges of cheating a few persons to the tune of ₹63 lakh on the promise of getting them government jobs. Police said Radhakrishnan of Kariyapatti told P. Muthu, a long-time friend from Kariyapatti, that he had contacts with higher officials and got government jobs to several persons on giving money to top officials. Radhakrishnan’s wife and her father too confirmed about his dealings. Based on their promise, Muthu and a few others paid ₹75 lakh in instalments through cash and bank transactions between January and May. However, Radhakrishnan made Muthu travel a lot of times to Chennai, but did not get any job as promised. Online travel agents and booking platforms are going beyond the usual flight and accommodation booking to focus on what they call experiential travel. Last week, Cleartrip announced that it expanded its international footprint by partnering with global activity platforms like Klook and Musement to offer end-to-end experiential travel services in 48 European and 18 Southeast Asian countries. Through its existing partners, Cleartrip also plans to launch a range of new activities for various Indian destinations on its platform.
